Infectious Diseases - August 2006

I have had ongoing treatment twice for toxoplasmosis since 2004, back and forth each week to the doc, like 15 diff kinds of medicines I had to take every day and have to take it again if it comes back in my eye. I wash my hands a thousand times and clean my place and everything. Last time I went back there, the doc found sinus scarring and of course scarring around my eye and the cyst behind my eyeball had shrunk from the steroids but he said I have to see the eye doc for life. I've known people of getting surjery and injections in their eyes. Is there any real cure for Toxoplasmosis?

My sister has been fighting a C-dif infection for nearly six months now. She's been on all recommended anti-biotics and they have made her so sick that it's not possible for her to take them. At one point she got some sort of odd "roving" form of the infection that hit her joints one at a time, leaving her unable to walk on her own. VERY FRIGHTENING!

She's seeing a specialist who has told her if she still has it in a year, he will do something drastic. But at only 108 pounds, with continual diarrhea and unable to eat normally (or often, at all) I think it needs to be taken care of before then. She's really frustrated, since her quality of life has taken a dive...no trips, no fun, no NOTHING because visits to the bathroom and pain from this illness have taken over. Help! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've just been to Greece and my two children and our friend's son all managed to pick up an ear infection. There were a number of children walking around our hotel grounds and pool area with cotton wool in their ears ie they also had ear infections.

Did my kids pick up an infection from being in the pool? Was it directly from unclean water or did water get lodged in their ears and this caused the infection? Could the fact that other children had ear infections and were in the water that my children caught it this way?

I've been sick for 8 days and I feel like a ball in my throat and a common fever. I ve taken recephine injection twice and olfen injection twice and ketek and flagyl and ceclor and grofenac and agninova and a gargle medice. Every time I swallow something , I hear this cracking sound from my ear.And when I hear my cd player, my ear hurts.And even when I don't hear my cd player, what is it ? Is it serious ? Actually the husband that time took her to a doctor who treated them both and the doctor told my sister that it was some disease which she got through using towels at the public swiming pool. She only became aware of that disease a few days back. Now she knows that it was urethritis and a person can not be infected merely by using a towel in a public place.

55 year old white male has had the following symptoms for the past two months: fever about 102, extreme fatigue, nausea but no vomitting, spleen so enlarged it was removed, and headaches. Dr. says he does not have cancer but maybe a virus. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I had ear drum operation and my damaged inner bones , tapes, superstrud , innus were removed . Dr. advised to get a small operation for the removed particles to be replaced after few months of my ear drum operation but i couldnt get it done at that time and now it after ten years I met the same Dr. who told to get it done quickly for better hearing and removal of plastic tapes that were put earlier for the ear drum which has decayed. I would like to know the exact meaning of this and how neccessary it is to be done and whether I would be able to get my hearing problem solved, Thank YOu

My weight went from 130 to under 68 pounds.I was real sick. I prayed alot and took lots of meds.lots all my friends since i was sick. Im now 41 and doing great my tcells are from 0 to 1458 and my Viral load is under 50 doing great . My weight 150 YAHO..Thank God and all the Hard workin Doctors..Take Care everyon..
