I have had ongoing treatment twice for toxoplasmosis since 2004, back and forth each week to the doc, like 15 diff kinds of medicines I had to take every day and have to take it again if it comes back in my eye. I wash my hands a thousand times and clean my place and everything. Last time I went back there, the doc found sinus scarring and of course scarring around my eye and the cyst behind my eyeball had shrunk from the steroids but he said I have to see the eye doc for life. I've known people of getting surjery and injections in their eyes. Is there any real cure for Toxoplasmosis?

Toxoplasmosis is difficult to treat. It is a parasitic infection. The medication to treat Toxoplasmosis is Antimony, a heavy metal. Long story short, the medication is very toxic and kills not only the parasite but healthy cells as well. So, doctors try to titer the amount of medication which would be therapeutic but not toxic. I know of one patient who was successfully "cured." I am sorry to hear you are experiencing complications in your treatment.

about a year ago we noticed my 9 yr old son's left eye was deviating outward.took him to the Ophthalmologist and he sent him to a retinal specialist because toxoplasmosis had damaged his retina. He can barely see out of that eye.The infection was old so there is nothing they can do,just monitor it.He was exposed to dogs when he was young, his relatives kept their dogs in the house and they pooped all over the place and the doc says that is how he got it.At first he thought he had a tumor, thank God he didn't but he still has lost his vision.People just don't realize how dangerous it can be to keep animals in the house. The organism lives in dog and cat bowel movements. If your infection is fresh then the steroids should help.Good Luck

This is a question for the doctor. I know of some who have had it in different spots than the eye and it went away. The eye is a different place and results vary.
