What was your first reaction when you found out that you had it?

Has your life changed since finding out you have it?

Can blood sugar levels (either high or low) have a drastic effect on moods and emotions? For instance; can a low or high blood sugar level cause massive mood swings in a person (i.e. extreme anger, rage, anxiety, episodes of depression or extreme sadness)?

He's showing the classic symtoms of going to the toilet more often, drinking loads, pains in his chest, feeling weak and then fine after a meal. He won't go to the doctor. What can I do? He had an illness last year called labyrinthitus, mainly the same symtoms but was given tablets from the doctor but they don't seem to work very well. Hes very overwieght but refuses point blank to eat ANY fruit or veg, with the exception of potatoes. I am really struggling here, so any serious answers would be greatly appreciated.

Another question said today is World Diabetic Day. I'm hosting a party and all diabetics are invited. Since it is short notice, I need some help with the menu, so it will be potluck. I though I would make a big plate of white chocolate chip brownies with chocolate drizzled across the top, a buttermilk cake with caramel icing and a big batch of caramel popcorn. Who is coming? What dish are you going to bring?

I am totally addicted to soda. I am trying to wein myself off with a drink substitute. What can I drink that is pleasant tasting and wont spike my blood sugar level?

I am currently drinking orange juice. However, I do not know if the natural sugar in the orange juice is bad for me.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I found out I had diabetes in June, 2006. My weight was at 207 lbs. The doctor put me on Metformin. I saw a nutritionist and went on a 1600 calorie diet. I thought it was the diet making me lose weight, but I'm beginning to think it's not. It is now November, and I weigh 146 lbs at 5'7". I have lost this weight without trying and continue to lose. The following is my meal plan: Breakfast, a bowl of Raisin Brain and a banana. At lunch one of the following: a grill chicken sandwich, turkey sandwich or a grilled chicken salad. For dinner, I eat two veggies and a meat that is grilled or baked. A snack is usually a banana. I am taking 1000 MG of metformin a day.
