I found out I had diabetes in June, 2006. My weight was at 207 lbs. The doctor put me on Metformin. I saw a nutritionist and went on a 1600 calorie diet. I thought it was the diet making me lose weight, but I'm beginning to think it's not. It is now November, and I weigh 146 lbs at 5'7". I have lost this weight without trying and continue to lose. The following is my meal plan: Breakfast, a bowl of Raisin Brain and a banana. At lunch one of the following: a grill chicken sandwich, turkey sandwich or a grilled chicken salad. For dinner, I eat two veggies and a meat that is grilled or baked. A snack is usually a banana. I am taking 1000 MG of metformin a day.

Most of us who are Type II have TROUBLE losing weight; most Type II diabetics do not lose weight nearly this fast. It may be that you need to be taking insulin instead of or in addition to Metformin. Please contact an endocrinologist at once to be tested.

Just giving you some information on Ketoacidosis just to be on the safe side.. Used to be called once upon a time the Wasting Disease..
My daughter is 10 and was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes 1 when she was 6..
My brother in law was just diagnosed with Diabetes 1 at 34 which is really unusual.. He has not been well for at least two years and only when he changed doctors recently when he was very ill was the simple test performed and he was properly diagnosed..
I know you have type 2, and I take it that metformin are tablets, but sometimes diabetes 2 can turn insulin dependant.
Weight loss and thirst are symptoms of Ketoacidosis..
Not trying to be an alarmist, just making sure all avenues are looked at..
See your doctor again, or get a 2nd opinion.
Ketoacidosis rarely occurs in people with type 2 diabetes. In most people who have type 2 diabetes, blood insulin levels usually do not get low enough to signal the liver to make ketones.

I am a diabetic too, and experiencing the same thing. We are losing weight because we are eating differently, and reducing the carbs that we take in. It's kinda like the Atkins diet. If you are worried, contact your doc, and ask what your ideal weight should be. If they see no red flags, you should be ok.

As some of the other folks have said - most T2's (myself included) have problems losing weight not the opposite. Perhaps you need to move to a maintenance eating plan rather than a weight loss plan.
The problem could be simply that you are consuming too few calories.

you are just about to your normal weight, 135, talk to your doctor, and dont let your weight go too low, i would think the doctor would be thrilled at your loss so far and actually he should reduce your medicine considering how much weight you have lost. I am diabetic too but i cant seem to lose any weight at all.

It’s Friday brunch time and you simply can’t stop going back with regard to seconds. But hang on! Stop for just a minute and suck on a supplementary strong mint. The flavour may put you off that 3rd plate of chicken korma/roast beef/sushi medley.

Music making you eat more. According to research by the journal Psychology and also Marketing, soft, classical tunes encourage one to take time over your meal, so you consume more foods. So, switch off – silence is likely to make you more aware of what you’re investing in your mouth.
