does anyone have any ideas for drinks for a child with diabetes. I don;t want to get only diet soda- soda is bad for him in a whole nother way, but most juices have so much sugar in them...

Also any snack ideas would be great as well- but the drinks i need the most.

I just started on insulin, right now just taking the long acting (lantus) but will start with short acting soon (waiting for an appt with diabetes educator). How does one travel with insulin like on long flights, how do I keep is refrigerated? What if I want to go to Europe someday, or on a trip back East in the autum. No plans now, just thinking about the future, my daydreams of travel.

This is a honest question, and I do not mean any disrespect to anyone. I am just trying to get my mind around this condidtion.
(type 2 - non insulin dependant)
So, if their body cannot process sugar fully, then why do they avoid it.
surely any excess sugar - not used by the body would just be excreted?
and why avoid sugar, yet, if the person starts to feel faint, you give them a sugary drink or piece of candy?
