I just started on insulin, right now just taking the long acting (lantus) but will start with short acting soon (waiting for an appt with diabetes educator). How does one travel with insulin like on long flights, how do I keep is refrigerated? What if I want to go to Europe someday, or on a trip back East in the autum. No plans now, just thinking about the future, my daydreams of travel.

put some ice in a plastic bag in it
it will keep it cold long enough to get you to your destination
diabetics travel all the time
don't let this stop you from exploring the world

I usually just put my insulin in a small cooler with a small ice pack not directly on it but wrapped up in a small wash cloth and keep it in there so that the insulin is kept cold. There is also ice on the plane if the ice pack is no longer frozen or cold and you can request it from the flight attendant. Good Luck and have fun!

Hi...
If you want carry insulin with you its better to be kept in small ice box with ice bags included and you inside the airplane ask the air hostess to keep in the fridge. In addition insulin can be kept in room temperature 25 centigrade until the expiry.one additional information to check the validity of insulin suspension if it form a white precipitate at the bottom of the container and does not dissolve upon shaking do not use it

If you plan on traveling, you need to have a note from your doctor so you can take your syringes on the plane. You should also, NEVER keep your syringes and your insulin separate. My sister got pulled over once and she had syringes in her glove box, but had forgotten her insulin at home and she could have gotten in big trouble for it. I also never kept mine in the fridge. I only got one bottle at a time..or got the insulin pens and it was used up before it needed to be in the fridge.

It can stay in room temperature for upto 30 days...not until the expiry date. If it is unused, it can stay in the fridge until the expiry date. Also depending on the type of insulin you use, the insulin can be cloudy!

Insulin does not need to be kept cold.No worries.
It is a big misconception and you can use this to your advantage.
" I have diabetes and will need a fridge in my hotel room".

Works all the time.

this product is amazing. My son is type 1 and we used this to keep his insulon cool the whole summer (baseball games, trips to beacj, park, etc) It's called Frio and requires no refrigeration. Just soak it in cold water and go. Stays cool for up to 3 days. http://www.friouk.com/ really a great product. : )

It doesn't have to be kept in the fridge, I never do and have had diebetes for 20 + years. YOu can fly with it too and the airlines have no problem with it. You need to carry it with you, they know that
