I have had 2 different opinions both from diabetic specialists - I dont mean to be rude but I'm more interested in people who have actually done it as it does put you in ketosis (NOT DKA) but th less carbs = better blood for me which is why I am interested

I did South Beach which isn't Adkins but similar. I am on the pump, so my basal rate stayed the same, but I then I would take a little insulin with each meal (depending how many carbs). I lost 7 lbs in the first two weeks, but once I started to reintroduce the carbs, it all came back, plus blood sugars were a little hard to regulate for a while. If you aren't on the pump, you would have to take some sort of long acting insulin to act as your basal rate. Then for meals and corrections, take the short acting insulin.

I finally lost the weight with this amazing program. It's called eat lower fat, smaller portions, and exercise.

Diabetes is really hard on the kidneys, protein is also really hard on the kidneys, being a diabetic and going on the Atkins diet will put you on the fast track to dialysis.

we need carbs.... if you eat your carbs in the am this will stable the blood sugar through out the day... maybe cut down on your carbs, keep checking your levels..... that would be a start... atkins did not work for me... my blood sugar went down to low and i drank more juice and gained weight.. it is not a good diet for us diabetics!
