I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 6 years ago. I'm now 26. Since being a teen my skin has given me issues, but I honestly didn't expect it to go on THIS long. Most people I know haven't had to deal with frequent breakouts past the age of 18. I've been to a dermatologist, who's put me on some medication (not Accutane), but it hasn't helped much. My blood sugar levels are under good control, but I can't help but wonder if my skin troubles are somehow connected to being diabetic. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? If so, have you been able to control it, and if yes, what did you do? I'm getting desperate enough that I'm tempted to go on Accutane, though am nervous about it, seeing as it's so hard on the liver. Anyone's advice is appreciated! Cheers!

I had blood test done for Diabetes done a few months ago and it tested negative. Of course I was relieved, considering I was a classic risk example: overweight. Despite my being overweight, I am lucky to have a relatively healthy blood pressure and my blood cholesterol was normal.
However, I was born with Hypothyroidism (low thyroid gland activity). Could this affect the test result? Also, I may have made the mistake of having coffee that morning (but with no cream nor sugar).
I called up a doctor at a health clinic I go to (it's for people who have no health insurance and can't afford a private doctor) and asked him about this and he said that as long as the test result was not positive for Diabetes, I should have nothing to worry about.
Should I take his word for it or get a second opinion (even though it will drain my bank account)?
Anyone who is in the health field and can give me some feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I was diagnosed with PCOS/Insulin Resisitance in Feb of this year after trying to get pregnant for almost 3yrs. Thankfully I got pregnant that same month due to going on the low carb/sugar diet and 1500mg of Metformin...I now have a healthy and beautiful 1 month old daughter.

I'm not trying to get pregnant obviously, but am concerned about the insulin resistance. My OBGYN said I dont need the diet or the Metformin unless I'm trying to get pregnant. But if I have insulin resistance, I was told that it can lead to type 2 diabetes if I dont continue the diet or meds. My dr wont prescribe the Met again until I'm trying to get pregnant. Should I be worried?? Should I be back on the medication??

to diabetic question and the answer chosen was not the correct one. It said that peole with diabetes should eat every two hours. That is not the solution. I know this because of my extensive training as a diabetic educator as well as being the mother of a 16 yr old son who has had type 1 since the age of 3.
