Is this a website or something that can help me understand what dentists are telling me?
Heres the deal...
I went to a dentist today for a free consultation to do Invisalign on me. He checked my mouth out and noticed that I grind my teeth a lot and said i need to drop the habit or it is possible that i will no longer have teeth within 5 years and im only 18 years old.
I need only minor spacing done, which is why i want to go with invisalign but he told me that traditional braces are better for me cause of my teeth.
First of all, im really scared about what he said concerning not having teeth. He said I could possibly need to get something at this early age...im not sure what he said... please help...
Any dentists in the room? feel free to email me at quakingbagman here on yahoo.
* I want to get rid of the spacing on my minor, both upper and lower and also keep my teeth, the stop grinding thing deal.
He said I should get the roots pulled forward and backwards or something.

Scared!

Why is it when you go to your M.D. you get checked out and given advice and direction with no mention of fees other then a co-pay. When I go to my dentist (4th one in 2 years) I get checked out and IMMEDIATELY here comes the office manager with a run down of the bill! How are you planning on paying? What insurance do you have? Are they taught in school that the bill is the most important issue and the patient isn't? I own my own successful sign business and I can tell you all matters except money are discussed first and money is last. Customer service is always the most important factor: making sure they are comfortable, they feel at ease, and they are happy with what we are doing for them. Then the issue of money is brought up. Why can't dentist get this through their head? 8-9 years of schooling and not one class on bedside manner, no wonder dentists are so hated. And the upselling, my god it's McDonalds with most of them. Want fries with that?

... the temporary crown has completely fallen out. I am left with a stubble of a tooth for a week or so before the full crown is fitted. Should I advance the appointment, or go to the hospital for some emergency treatment?

about 3 years ago i had a bad toothache. so of course i went to the dentist, who told me that i had a bad cavity and an abcess in the gum on one of my baby teeth. he said i still had 2 left. but if i remember correctly, i lost all of my baby teeth, by age 10. actually, i lost one of my front teeth twice. how it grew back? beats me!!!!

Is it fear of the dentist? Is it financial problems? I know they probably had poor dental care as a child, but as an adult, there are options. I just want everyone to have healthy teeth.

My grand daughter, age 6, with all her baby teeth was told (her parents were told) she needs 3 root canals, and three crowns. How is a root canal, a long and tedious procedure, performed on a child?

My lower left wisdom tooth is growing and it's impacted. My lower right is almost fully grown and it's not. I know that the impacted tooth needs to be removed but should I have the other tooth removed too? I mean, it would be kind of odd to have an uneven number of teeth back there (not that anyone aside from dentists would look there...) but I feel it would be a waste to have a perfectly good tooth removed. Any opinions? What would you do if you had this problem?

. Also, yesterday I sneezed heavily and the tongue contacted the sharp tooth, and cut it rather unpleasantly.

Is there a way to make my tooth less sharp?
Should I have the dentist file it down?
Will it matter that I lose some of the tooth in doing so?

I lost one left molar and i want to have an implanted tooth. Does the procedure hurt? And how many days it will heal? Do you have an idea how much is it?

My two bottom wisdom teeth are beginning to surface, but they're causing me no pain. My mom says they will and I need to hae them out now, but I'm terrified of the procedure to remove them. Is it really worth it? And if so, how much pain will I be in afterward? And yes, I hold comfort over safety ^^;

I have mandibular prognathism (though my dentist has never specific ly said this to me) and my top set of teeth is pretty mucked up ie with some gaps and some slighlty out of position teeth. Now I am almost certain that I am going to get a brace to correct the top set of teeth however without a proper bite im not sure if they will stay that fixed. I am 18 so i have stopped growing now and i have the option of jaw surgery to cut a bit of the jaw out of the back of my mouth to give myself a better bite (and also hopefull to look better), however its quite major. I also think I have a mild case of Temporomandibular joint disorder as i get clicking when opening and moving my mouth about though it doesnt hurt. If I chose to have the operation then the braces would be free. There are apparantly some risks to having the surgery such as nerve damage and I am currently unsure what to do. What do people think i should do... anyone else been in this situation? what did you do and was it worth it?

Okay so I need to know if I go to the emergency room for a tooth that is infected and broke off. Will they call in a dentist to fix it? Or can the attending Dr. Fix it? You see my insurance will cover ER but not Dental....Stupid I know. My tooth broke and is grossly ifected and needs to be pulled. I think there is a nerve exposed which is causing SEVERE pain.
Please no lectures, Only answer if you have actually been in this situation of know actual facts about it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks.

It looks like I need to get my wisdom teeth out and although I can have it done under the normal local anesthetic you usually get it done under, I'm thinking about having it done under general in the hospital.

I know it costs more, so thats not an issue. What I want to know is what do they actually do to you when they put you under general. I have never had an operation under general anesthetic so I really don't know.

Do you have to fast beforehand?
Do you have to have a catheter?
Do you feel anything?
Are you awake at all/will you remember it?
Anything else I should know?

I have what i think is a wisdom tooth coming in. Theres a very little bit of tooth way in the back that is popped through but now the gum that surrounds it has covered most of that tooth. It is swelled up and hurts like HELL! its hard for me to open my mouth all the way without it hurting. It is weird because my daughter who is 5 just went to her doc for the same reason and the doc said she is cutting her molars. But i started experiencing this 1 day later. help please? what does this sound like to you??

I was recently told that a person can be allergic to dental filling, and the stuff used in filling a a tooth after a root canal. if so does anyone know what type of reactions this could cause if a person was allergic? I've had 6 Root Canals since the first of the year and been highly sick since then.
