. Also, yesterday I sneezed heavily and the tongue contacted the sharp tooth, and cut it rather unpleasantly.

Is there a way to make my tooth less sharp?
Should I have the dentist file it down?
Will it matter that I lose some of the tooth in doing so?

Yes, visit a dentist and have them file it for you or fill it. But in the mean time there is a wax made specially for your mouth (sometimes people w/ braces use it). You can mold it to fit the sharp edge of your tooth so that you don't get cut between now and your dentist visit. Good luck :)

I've been playing with a mixture of parrafin wax and petroleum jelly and immersion the heated mixture in a cotton round and molding it around my sharp tooth (teeth, for I have no lower teeth and am not going to go to a dentist. I gargle with hydrogen peroxide and also use raw garlic to keep teeth and gums healthy and pain free.

I'm guessing it is sharp because it has been chipped, so yes go to a dentist. Might need a bit of smoothing or a bit of porcelain.

Get to the dentist so he/she could take a look at it. In the mean time pick up a pack of brace wax and use that on the edge of your tooth. That wax stuff will help protect your tongue from the sharp part of your tooth.

Hope this helps. :)

Teeth don't suddenly "become sharp" for no reason. The tooth is likely broken or chipped.

If so, filing it down will not solve the problem. The tooth may need a filling or a crown in order to save it.

See a dentist as soon as possible.

Call your dental office and see about getting an emergency appointment. There really isn't a way for you to fix the tooth without causing any damage to your mouth.
