yes an infection can spread.
One of my dental journals years ago had a story about a woman that had an infection in a lower tooth and it spread, she had to have a drainage tube put in under her clavicle and it was too far gone, it had spread further and she ended up losing her breast. It was horrible. All because of a toothache that she did not want to take care of, Infection spreads quickly, please go see your dentist and have it taken care of and if it is infected make sure you take antibiotics.
good luck

I'm a dentist.
Absolutely, it can spread. Not only can it spread from your mouth, it can spread literally anywhere. I've seen infections make their way outward and break through the skin on peoples' faces and start draining there (although that's quite rare).
More concerning, the infection can spread back to your neck and constrict your airway and kill you. Or, it could spread to your chest (specifically the mediastinum) where it would be very difficult to treat. You can become septic and die.

I read about a man who died from this very thing. He had an abscessed tooth and never got it treated. The infection when into his jaw bone and down his neck and into his chest. When they did the autopsy on him, the pus just poured out of his chest cavity.
If he had only gotten to the dentist and had an antibiotic.

Yes, infections anywhere can spread to your mouth and teeth, and the opposite is also true.
