... the temporary crown has completely fallen out. I am left with a stubble of a tooth for a week or so before the full crown is fitted. Should I advance the appointment, or go to the hospital for some emergency treatment?

Just my opinion: advance your appointment and -- depending how much pain you're in or if you may have an infection starting -- go for emergency treatment. The temp shouldn't have fallen out but it has. Can you ask advice from the person who put the temp in? Dental infections are more serious than most people think. They can cause a multitude of serious health problems and even kill people. If you think you're beginning an infection or an abcess, get to emergency treatment immediately.

Don't fret, just keep it clean and you will be fine.

If it hurts that is a different matter of course you would then need help.

It has happened to me several times - in fact a crown kept coming off so now I have toothe coloured resin built up around the peg and that is it, it is fine and looks like a normal tooth and much cheaper than a crown.

You need to call the dentist and tell them. They usually have an emergency number. You don't want the tooth to become infected. Some pharmacy's have temporary crowns you can buy to put on until you can get to the dentist, but you should call the dentist to see what he/she says first. My dentist has an emergency number. Good luck to you.

I would suggest calling your dentist so they can advise. They will more then likely put in a new temp since you still have a week left before the full crown goes on.

I would call your dentist and let them know that you are without a temporary. If you were one of my patients, I'd want to get you in right away to make you a new one. We want that tooth protected and also to keep that space open for the permanent crown.

If your in the UK i would'nt even bother going to hospital, coz they will turn you away. Get a kit from the chemist to do you until Monday, then just turn up at your dentists on Monday morning, don't ring first because they will just fob you off. Hopefully they will tell you to take a seat and the dentist will see you inbetween patients as you won't have an appointment. If it was my mouth i would went another tempory placed. Good luck, don't take no for an answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you still have the temp crown - stick it back in with some sugar free gum. Advance the appointment if you're able to, but just be patient.

If you saved the temp crown the dentist can put it back in in a minute. I had to do that. There was no appt. necessary for such a quick procedure in my case.

Ring the out of hours dentist and get advice from there and that don't work ring the local hospital and explain your cause and they will advise you, but for the hospital to do anything there and then you must state to them that it is very sore and unbearable,.
Best Of Luck
