I've been thinking about it lately and the only thing I'm worried about is health issues. What would you suggest investing in, in order to maintain good health while being meat free. I've heard B12 supplements and Flax seed oil? Are these good? Would you suggest more?

I'm looking for a good vegetarian recipe book with yummy dishes in them...i'm NOT a vegetarian, but I like eating all veggies/salads as meals often. I just want to mix it up! Any suggestions?

I lift weights on a regular basis and consume alot of soy. I like the taste and need all the protien. I am a vegetarian and consume less than 10% of my calories from fat so soy is a big part of my diet. I've heard some bad things about soy like the estrogen effect reducing testosterone and making males take on female characteristics, and that it leads to abnormal thyroid function. To me that just does not ad up, it's just a vegetable. But I am probably consuming 50 grams of soy protien a day in my diet - not through supplements but through soy food products. Have any of you used soy for long periods of time? What were your experiences?

Here's my situation: I am very thin, a picky eater, Asian (my family are regular meat eaters and every dish my mom makes has meat), and I want to find a way to gain weight without having to eat meat...I'm probably asking too much but I'm desperate...

I am seriously thinking about becoming vegetarian for life because although I feel strongly about animal cruelty issue, my reasons for considering this are more to do with the fact that I don't particularly like meat anyway and I much prefer the taste of Quorn and soya substitute products. In a restaurant, I nearly always go for the vegetarian option and my mum even calls me a closet vegetarian!

The only thing that worries me though, is whether I am still going to get all the nutrients and health benefits that meat supposedly gives as such a staple of a normal diet. Is it safe to cut it out completely forever?

i've been vegetarian for the past 2 yrs, and this past semester made the hop to veganism...a little getting used to, but nothing outrageously terrible. mom backs me when it comes to animal testing, so that's good! (when my younger brother asked me if i wanted to clean animal cages at a research place, for $12 an hour, mom looked at him and said, "that would be like asking him to eat a hamburger...i couldn't do that, i couldn't watch little animals suffering...")

reminding my folks that/why i don't eat animal and their byproducts, (and what these no-eat lists contain--repeatedly) can sometimes be...annoying and tiresome...though they are remembering more, and are becoming more understanding of my choice :)

but i could do without the semi-rare sarcasm. i just want some decent things to respond with...other than reminding them i'm vegan, or what things i don't eat and why. but they're learning much about the foods i DO like, since i started cooking dinner occasionally!

Why was it made? It is just cabbage and a ton of salt. I almost have to acquire a taste for it just to eat it. Does it even have any nutritional benifets to it?

I've been waiting to become one...but it's hard. My family thinks it dumb and all they ever eat is meat. I'm only 15, so it's not like I can go out and buy my own food.
