I was in an airport resteraunt during a layover in Phoenix this summer. I ordered sweet tea and, of course, they didnt have it. As a matter of fact, the waiter asked what it was. He thought is was a type of leaf that you brew! After explaining to him what it was, he told me he had never known.

My question is...do people not from the south seriously not know what sweet tea is??? Or am I just that gullible??

I've done a bit of research, and we ended up purchasing Anolon's Ovation--which is nonstick anodized. I understand a bit of differences between nonstick and just hard anodized cookware, but what about the care for the combination of both? Obviously, one wouldn't use metal cooking utensils with nonstick, but anything else? I always hand wash dishes anyhow...
**Do I just treat the cookware as I would any nonstick cookware? Any foods to avoid?

Thanks! As Jacques Pepin would say, happy cooking!

My husband and I want to eat healthier. But I have no idea how! I bought a lot of fruit canned and fresh like peaches pears plums apples kiwis strawberries etc, and some veggies also canned fresh and frozen. Broccoli, zucchini, squash, lettuce, tomatoes, potatoes, mushrooms, green beans, peas, carrots, etcetera. And for meats I bought a pork roast, bag of boneless skinless chicken breasts, hamburger meat, pork chops, and beef stew meat. I have whole grain egg pastas, wheat bread.... I have all these healthy things and I have no idea what to do with any of it. It just sits there for us to stare at because I have no idea how to prepare any of it. I can cook a little, I'm great at following directions. I need ideas for healthy breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. We like things to be tasty and flavorful and we'll eat almost anything but tofu and soy milk... Thanks a million to all who take the time to help me out!

Mine are:

Them: Where do you get your protein?
Me: Many things, including beans, nuts, soy and fortified foods have protein in them. I get more than enough.

Them: I thought vegans were all sickly thin, how come you're not?
Me: Being a vegan does not have to mean less calories. Calories in + exercise = calories burned. It's as simple as that.

Them:What do you eat then?
Me: Everything you do, but without the animal products. In fact, my diet is probably more varied than yours since I tried to incorporate a lot of exotic foods.

Them: Why don't you eat meat?
Me: I don't like it for any reason.
Them: Oh, so it's not for ethical reasons?
Me: Not exactly
Them: Well, that's ok then (as if it weren't ok if it were for ethical reasons).

I have been trying to get my wife to buy healthier food at the grocery store, but she says we don't have the money. I used to believe healthier food cost more but I am taking a nutrition class in college and it seems that's not necessarily true. She buys a lot of processed foods and easy-to-make stuff because she can't cook too well. (to me) I have asked her to learn how to cook a little bit from my mom so she'll know how to make things I like more but she puts it off. We have about $250 a month for two people for food in our budget and she is in charge of groceries since I work and go to school. I really care about OUR nutrition but she is not that concerned with it so she buys cheap unhealthy stuff. Are there things she can buy that are not too expensive or unhealthy to substitute? I need some examples to give her PLEASE! Also a few healthy recipes or something would be nice for her to learn. I'm not on a special low-carb diet or anything I just want to eat more nutritiously.
