I am going to prepare a salad for my family containing the following ingredients:
*Crab sticks
*Smoked Salmon
*Mushroom
*Corn(Canned)
*Red, orange(yellow) and green pepper
*Cherry tomatoes
*Onion
*Dressing

I want you to recommend three things:
1] The quantity of each ingredient in the salad
2] A recipe of a dressing that would be suitable for the salad
3] A good name for the salad!!!!

Thanks in advance.........

You didn't say how many people are in your family but - with the assumption of 5 in your family - 3 kids - 2 adults - here's what I would recommend:

1/2 lb crab sticks
1/2 lb smoked salmon
6 mushrooms - cut into 4ths
1 small can corn - drained
1/3 each of the red, orang and green bell peppers - cut into strips
12 cherry tomatoes - cut in half
2 slices of sweet yellow onion - diced
DRESSING: Take a water glass to mix the dressing. Pour about 1 inch of pickle juice into the glass (either sweet or dill - your choice). Add about 3 heaping tablespoonfuls of mayonnaise, 2 heaping tablespoonfuls of catsup and 1 heaping tablespoonful of mustard. Add 1/2 tsp of celery seed and black pepper to taste. Mix the dressing until well mixed - OK to have a few white lumps in it - that's the mayo. The dressing can be made in advance - just cover the glass with saran and refrigerate. That Thousand Island dressing goes great with seafood. You can even add a little cayenne or red pepper to the dressing for a bump. You could call your salad Sensational Seafood Salad. Enjoy! You can include shredded lettuce in this also if you'd like but it's not necessary.

I would nix the mushroom, the overall texture is already slimy. the dressing definitely needs to have mayo, lemon juice, white wine vinegar, and old bay seasoning..if you don't know what old bay is get a bay leaf and some celery salt. Don't put the tomatoes in whole, quarter them first, lightly salt, and let some water drain out. Use more crab than salmon, a small can of corn, dice a half of each pepper into 1 cm cubes, and mix a half large onion finely diced into the dressing. think about some dill and capers too. the name is up to you, if a particular guest likes it, a little flattery is good, tell that person you have named it after them.

Call it smoked salmon salad. Use balsamic vinagrette dressing. It's good on practically everything. I buy the packets of Good Seasons Italian dressing and subsititue balsamic vinegar for white vinegar. Yummy! The quantity you put on depends on what you like. For example, I put a lot of cherry tomatos on because I like those best. Use your best judgement. Start with a small amount, see how it looks. If it looks good, eat it! Bon Appetit!!

P.S. Get a nice white wine, chardonnay, to go with the salad. It will complement it nicely.
