my husband likes his chili on top of spaghetti noodles... his whole family eats it this way. is it a black thing (i'm mexican, and i eat chili w/ tortilla chips) or just a midwest thing or southern thing? not sure.

anyway, i don't mind eating it like he does, but i don't prefer it. who else out there eats it this way? or do you like it the way i do, w/ tortilla chips (to scoop up like dip) & cheese on top?

I was staying with my dad and his wife to finish up my junior year of high school and when I went there, I was vegetarian. They said they'd respect it when I went vegan (most dairy products were making me sick, anyway, so I had already cut out a lot of dairy from my diet by then), but my dad and his wife refused to see to it that I had food that I could eat - they provided me with soy milk - only because regular milk made me sick - but other than that, their attitude was that if I didn't like what was in the kitchen, too bad for me (and they weren't big on fruits and vegetables, so we didn't have much of those). Even when I began dropping a lot of weight (135 to 115 lbs in 2 weeks) from living off of little more than soy milk and oatmeal, they didn't care. On top of things, I'm hypoglycemic (low-blood sugar; opposite of diabetes, for those who don't know) and they still refused to buy anything I could eat, even though it wouldn't have added much to their grocery bill. Was that right?

I'm tired of reading about chili, or swiss-steak, pot roast, etc.
I haven't seen any good, unique slow-cooker ideas.
Anybody have a family recipe that you can't find in a book?

Help me with entertaining ideas. Them more random the better. Just moved in to a new townhouse community and thought the best way to get to know the neighbors would be to have my friends come over and drink and do a scavenger hunt in the neighborhood. Sound like fun? Then end up in the hot tub!

No Spaghetti
Hates Lasagna
Nothing with tomatoes
Perferably not a chicken dish

I love salad with vinaigrette and I am looking for some homemade recipes to try. I have bought all the bottled dressings but it seems to taste so much better made at home.

Does anyone put items in the local fair? Or is this slowly being fazed out and becoming only a memory. I remember 4H clubs and housewives canning and quilting all to show their items at the local or county fairs. What would make you consider doing something like this?

My favorite burger.

2 pounds chopped beef chuck or round
1 onion
1 tablespoon heavy cream
Freshly ground black pepper
Unsalted butter
Vegetable oil, as needed
Kosher salt, to taste

Spread the meat out on a board and grate 2 to 3 tablespoons of onion into it—use a fairly fine grater so you get just the juice and very finely grated raw onion. Now mix in about a tablespoon of heavy cream and some freshly ground black pepper, to taste. Form into patties--a 6 to 8-ounce patty for an average serving.
Using a black iron skillet or your best copper one or your pet aluminum frying pan, Teflon-coated or not (with a Teflon coating you won't need much fat, just a little bit for flavor), and cook the hamburgers in the butter and oil over fairly high heat, giving it 4 to 5 minutes a side, depending on how well done you like it. Salt this creamy, oniony, peppery hamburger before serving it on a buttered bun or English muffin, or as a main course with sliced tomatoes and onions or some home-fried potatoes.

Castleberry's Food Co. has a recall on numerious products shipped from Augusta Ga. Stew, Chili, see the list in the attachment.
http://www.castleberrys.com/
Many of these foods were sold in convience stores as well
The longer these foods remain canned, the stronger the contaminate becomes, could lead to death!!!
Do you have any of these items in your pantry?
