Does anyone put items in the local fair? Or is this slowly being fazed out and becoming only a memory. I remember 4H clubs and housewives canning and quilting all to show their items at the local or county fairs. What would make you consider doing something like this?

Many, if not most, county fairs are sponsored by the 4-H and/or FFA and are geared toward children and teenagers. Some fairs also have open classes, in which adults can exhibit. In my county there are no open classes, only those for kids. I'd love to participate in something like this on a local level. I'm not willing to travel very far, however, because a ribbon and the associated three or four dollar prize (seriously, that's all you get) just isn't worth the expense.

Well personally I would love to learn how to can. I'm taking up a new project this summer..making chokecherry jam..! Sometimes things have evolved to be so much easier now days, and everyone is forgetting how to do things the way they used to be done. It seems like as each generation ages, they only forget about the days when everything had to be done with their very own hands, and from scratch I might add. I remember my great grandma baking and canning every day. Sewing blankets and making clothes. Wow how times have changed
