My gran used to win lots of prizes with her bottled items... canned fruit, berries, jam... what i found most scarse and inventive was her cinnamon- watermelon jam. Sounds funny but it is great... Not the bitter marmelade type, but sweet and tasty.

Oh yes I have, but not food items. I entered a baby afghan that was crocheted all in white, and a applique quilt block. I won ribbons for both items. This year I am entering a crochet scarf and a baby quilt with teddy bears appliqued on it. This is the fair weekend so I can hardly wait to go to the fair today to see if I have a ribbon or two!
My sister enters many more items that I do and she always wins the first place ribbons it seems, she likes to brag too! but I am not as competitive as she is so I just tell her how great she is!

yes, I knitted scarves for Christmas craft fairs (in UK) and it was surprisingly fun to do. Ended up with cuts between my fingers from knitting into the early hours of every night, but it was a great way to earn cash for the kids christmas pressies when my husband was away from home!
I am thinking of doing jellies and sloe gin this year for Christmas.
