Some people are vegetarians to support animal rights, and some people don't eat meat to be healthy. You don't have to care about animals, but you SHOULD!

A vegetarian is someone who does not eat animal flesh. Some do it for religious reasons, some for health, some for ethical reasons and some a combination of the above reasons.
You are being insensitive because you state you "dont care about animals". That IS insensitive and not very normal.

Yes, of course you can. Many people are vegetarian or vegan for health reasons. Once you make the switch and are comfortable not eating meat, you might see animal issues differently and start to care.
Not all vegetarians and vegans are animal lovers, either - even ethical veg*ans. You can care about the life of another being without wanting to hang out with them.
Research about vegetarian nutrition, you will probably feel alot healthier. Then maybe you can check out things like this:

Good luck, we're all at different stages

I was raised vegetarian since I was about 2 and am still vegetarian.
I don't really do it for health reasons as I just eat whatever I want (except for meat and egg products).
I also don't have strong pro-animal rights feelings. In ninth grade, when my biology class dissected fetal pigs to learn about body systems, I was the only one in my class who didn't wear gloves.... I mean, I still care for animals, but I won't go out and protest with pro-animal rights groups or really follow up with what's going on politically or otherwise with them.
You're not alone!

Vegetarianism is the practice of not eating dead animals.
If you are not eating animals, then your are a vegetarian, regardless of your opinions of animals.
Some people decide to go veg for environmental reasons, animal cruelty reasons, health reasons or simply because they find meat to be ucky.

Of course - a lot of people turn vegetarian because they are health conscious or because they want to help the environment - it doesn't matter why you are vegetarian.

Yes, you can. No one can stop you from becoming a vegetarian, although vegetarisms main purpose is to prove that animals should'nt be mistreated or treated cruely.

Many vegetarians are interested in their health or just don't like meat. There is nothing at all wrong with that.

Yes, many people go vegetarian just for the health benefits. See http://www.pcrm.org/health/veginfo/vsk/veg_foods.html for the health advantages.
