But I have some special circumstances. For health reasons I can not give up dairy and I am allergic to mushrooms. Any advice?

you can be a lacto-vegetarian or a lacto-ovo vegetarian, and still eat milk and still call yoruself a "vegetarian." Most vegetarians still consume milk and eggs. Only VEGANS don't. Just as long as you call yourself a "vegetarian" and not a "vegan," no one will expect you to give up dairy.

Learn how to cook with a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, legumes (Beans, soy), whole grains, and nuts. Eat balanced meals. Eat lots of salads and raw, fresh stuff.

Mushrooms are not necessary in a vegetarian diet (although I love them). If you are used to staying away from them allready, then I'm sure you know how to, and where they might hide. No biggie. I have been vegetarian for 17 years and stay far away from squash because I hate it. It certianly doesn't make being a vegetarian hard to eliminate one specific fruit or vegetable from your diet.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that vegetarians were able to consume dairy. And mushrooms, they aren't a must-eat kind of food in a vegetarian's life. You can cope well even if you are allergic to mushrooms! Good luck!

I know someone who is vegan and is allergic to mushrooms, and she gets by. You will have to read labels carefully to make sure food has no mushroom extracts. When you eat out, you will have to let the server know of your dietary needs--which you probably already do.

I have never heard of anyone who cannot give up dairy for health reasons--could you possibly expand on that?

If you become ovo-lacto vegetarion (or just lacto) then you can keep eating eggs and dairy (or just dairy if you become a lacto vegetarian). There are tons of meals you can have without mushrooms and most soy products don't have mushrooms so that shouldn't be a problem for you. Good luck!

Vegetarians are allowed to eat cheese... so you are okay there. One tip would be to eat a lot of beans or nuts, because that is where you will get most of your protein from.

Many restaurants have Vegetarian menus, and items... so you shouldent have too hard of a time adapting. The hardest part for most Vegetarians is getting enough protein though. One food I really like, (even though I am not a vegetarian), is hommous. If you get some pita bread, you will be in heaven... and the good part is that it is high in protein.

There are plenty of foods without mushrooms so i'm not sure what you are asking actually.

Vegetarians eat & drink dairy, and you already cope without eating mushrooms

as long as you eat healthy and you work out (burn what you eat)... you will be fine...

i eat everything except for junk food, pork, or alcohol and i work out... and thus i can't remember the last time i got really sick aside from the common every year 2 day cold...(excuse from work really)..

so go ahead but be carefull to fulfill all of what your body needs and burn what you eat so that it doesn't stay and make that flappy thing on your belly (you know what i am talking about)
