My girlfriend recently lost her father in a long battle with throat cancer. She is 21. I have tried many things to help her including going out to see her several times this summer (she lives 9 hours away from me). I just feel like i can't say anything to make it better and she isn't open about her feelings to anyone else. She feels like no one cares about how she is now that it is a couple months after his death, but isnt willing to let anyone know that she is struggling. I am really worried that she might go into deep depression and make her situation worse. I just need some suggestions on how i might encourage her or how i can convince her to talk to a counseler or therapist if there really isn't anything i can do. Also, what could i do to help or encourage her mother or brothers and sisters?

thanks a lot for your responses

My daughter is 7. She was at her dad's, and his wife breastfeeds their 5 month old baby. Most people are modest while breastfeeding, but on this day....my daughter was watching TV, and apparently the baby was hungry. Her stop mom proceeded to stand in front of the television, lift her dress all the way up to her neck, and was completely naked underneath. (No panties, no bra). She rocked back and forth in front of the TV where my daughter couldn't see the TV, she could only see this naked person standing infront of her. Last summer, they were at her step mom's house, and apparently they spent the night. My daughter woke up, and looked through the house for someone. When she found no one, she went out the back, only to find this woman standing outside butt naked cleaning the pool. She said that she told her dad about the breastfeeding incident while it was going on, and he didn't do anything about it. When I try to talk to him, he calls me names and says I am only trying to start trouble

So called "child protective services" took my son away from us after he received a spanking on his butt. Yes, there were some bruises. However, he did not complain to authorities. The former mother-in-law called the cops upon hearing of the event.
CPS did not care about the reason for the dicipline, did not investigate, did not ask my son if he wanted to stay with us, and generally were extremely hostile to myself and my wife. They have decimated our family. We will never be the same.

first off i want to thank all of you for your great advice i dont knnow if i could possibly choose the best awnser i got very emotional reading all of the responses.but maybe i should of explained the fact that she shows no remmorse for the abortion and yes if she would of given me the chance i would have took the baby but not to feel like a replacement to the one i had lost because i was very fortunate to have her identical twin sister that survived and a wonderful 3 year old boy.she said alot of painful things to me and she never wants me to bring up the child i lost everyone would rather pretend like it never happened.i simply asked her why then she snapped at me that im a baby makeiing machine(and i knnow that does sound funny)but it was very painful .she tells me that im naieve and that my morals are backwards i dont want to fight with her i really dont .

My mother has battled heart surgery, bone cancer, breast cancer, and last night she broke her hip that has cancer. I just left the hospital as she is in pain awaiting surgery. A strong feeling feel over me as I looked at the sky. I believe that the next few days will be the last of her life. She waited for me to marry before leaving my dad, who has since passed. I believe that she has been holding on til I found my path in life in fear of leaving me alone. She must believe in the path I have recently found, because I could see in her eyes that she has let go,and has had enough of living in pain. How do I thank her for my life? How do I make our goodbye, a charished moment in our treasure chest of memories?

I had a bad time these days with my emotion. On top of that, when I am being scolded by my parent, I really want to cried in front of them like what i did when I was a kid, but I didn't (or couldn't do so). I know they don't mean or don't think I am taking their word seriously, but their words do really hurt. I couldn't say a word in front of them, than I went back to my room, and while alone, I couldn't help but tears started to drop. Then I forced myself not to cry, in case anyone would notice, but I felt terrible. As a guy, others will say like stop being a cry baby or like thats gay. Sometimes I really want to cry like a kid. Girls can go to a guy and cry all they want and no one cares, but why do guys have to hide or control their emotions. I feel like I am gona explode. Isn't it just so hard to keep how you feel inside to yourself?

I don't want to upset my father in law, but neither he or my husband stand up to her.. If I say something she just lashes out or storms away ignoring me and not wanting to confront the situation. Any advice out there?
