Contact your IRS, if they had to pay 70 years ago, it would be recorded some where unless of course they come back and tell you the storehouse burnt down.

contact the IRS if you are in the US or your state/provincial/local government branch that deals with income tax. Other than that, an accountant might be able to help.

that doesn't make sense to me. the irs only require's that tax info be kept for something like 6 or 7 yrs.

Why don't you ask the government??? Its worth a try. As long as you have the documentation that you are a relative, if you are.
