...which we had before computers. Remember the paperless office which computers were supposed to give us? Well every year I and my colleagues generate more and more papers because the more people use computers the more documents they send and the more you have to print out the stuff they send.

Why do I print it out? Not sure. Could be:

It's easier to deal with information in hard copy form.
It's easier to file it and find it again.

Whatever the reason, it's not good for the environment, or for office space for that matter. Any tips?

So many "experts" are in the pocket of big business. All those arguments about how we must have more nuclear power stations as if those are God's gift! Why don't more environmental groups inform the public about the real threats and dangers posed to the public? Are they all too scared to speak out because they fear there is no alternative?

Get the true facts here:

look at the facts, there is no proof. everything is just an opinion or best guess. but please look at the facts. in truth we really don't know whats happening. we only have records from 1880 to today. the earth is millions of years old. anybody will tell you looking at less than 1% of the data is never proof.
ps. in the mid 1970s people thought the earth was cooling

I swear, If I was told that the ocean was rising and that part of my country was going to be consumed by the ocean, I would consider trying to build some sort of barrier to keep the ocean from consuming land. wouldnt building some sort of barrier to keep the ocean at bay be a wise choice? it may cost a lot but wouldnt it be worth it.

If you put a water spinning wheel, just below a waterfall, The water would spin the wheel, creating a non polluting source of energy, and would not disturb the waterfall. What do you think?

I am what some would regard me as 'future dreamer'. I dream regularly about future events / situations around the world. For some time now I've been dreaming about an event in November 2007 - an event so globally catostrophic - I go cold just thinking about it. I decided to look up the matter on an internet search engine. It was quite scary to find a website that matches my dream of a scientific experiment to be carried out in November 2007. Just as I dreamed of, the experiment has the potential to completely obliterate earth. The experiment will be undertaken deep down in a labyrinth of underground tunnels. Experimental equipment is now assembled & in place. Though strangely, even though a handful of select scientists & some top Military / Government officials have been briefed on the forthcoming experiment, people (me & you) are being kept in the dark about the nature & potentially catastrophic consquences of this very, very dangerous experiment More info ok if you ask me!

Recently an advocate of AGW posted a graph from Wikipedia that was intended to prove that the surface record was not contaminated by urbanization. Climate models indicate that the troposphere should have warmed 1.3 times faster than the earths surface. The graph shows trends from 1982 - 2004, as listed below.

Surface : +0.187˚C/Decade (BLUE)
UAH : +0.163˚C/Decade (RED)
RSS : +0.239˚C/Decade (GREEN)

The UAH indicates that the surface warmed at a faster rate than the atmosphere, which disproves the CO2 theory. RSS indicates that the atmosphere warmed at 1.278 times faster than the surface which supports the theory, but the RSS correction involves utilizing a climate model to make it's corrections which seems suspicious. And the graph computes the slopes starting at 1982, which also is very suspicious. It seems that if the slopes were computed from 1979 neither would support AGW.

I'll start. Mine is Self because it embodies everything that I am and is the representation of my belief in individuality. Self means as defined by webster's dictionary as the entire person of an individual, the realization or embodiment of an abstraction. the union of elements (as body, emotions, thoughts, and sensations) that constitute the individuality and identity of a person. The essential qualities and distingushing characteristics thatt sets a person, thing or being apart from all others. In other words, the individual. What about yours??

i just thoguht of something. GW is "caused" by co2 making tempetures higher what if??? The earth is naturally getting higher tempetures causing co2 to rise instead of the opposite??? just a idea the chart could be read differnetly could'nt it ?? you could say higher co2 =higher tempetures but also could be said that higher tempteures= high co2 levels???

(I think GW isnt caused by us)But would you possibly think it could be the other way around???

I am in my mid 30's, married, have two children, bought a house in a rural small town, got a pickup truck and suddenly realized that I now what I had always despised. It all started quite simply. I got married, had a child and then the wife decided that we needed to buy a house. The problem is that she is a career student, so we are living off my income. So, when she started looking at house loans, she found a no down payment government loan that required us to buy a house in a rural town. I had always biked to work, so my wife's car was always enough. But, now that we would be living out of town, my father-in-law offered to give me his old pickup, so that I would have a vehicle. So, now, I can no longer cycle to work, and have to drive miles to go shopping. This is how I became a redneck. Guess I'm SOL. Any advice?

Some people here point out previous predictions such as:

- an ice age has been predicted (by a minority of scientists nevertheless, back by extravagant journalists)
- the ozon layer will largely be depleted (did not occur due to the success story of the Montreal Protocol).

NEVERTHELESS, the following predictions have been proven right:

- China will emitt more than the US and become an economical superpower (a majority of people doubted it 20 years ago... only some specialists were sure of it).
- Over half of the Amazon rainforest will disappear
- Oil would reach a price over 50$ per barrel on the long term
- Resources will start to be constrained (Uranium prices have been X10; Copper X4; Iron and Steel X2; Tungsten X? and so on...)
- Fresh water resources woul become scarce
- The Northern passage opened, the ice cover largely reduced, average temperatures increased, several African lakes already disappeard

Any other predictions in which we were right or wrong ?

This graph has been showing up a lot.

http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs/Fig.C.lrg.gif

With words that imply it shows cooling.

But it's an optical illusion that is easily defeated.

Take a pencil (something thinner would be even better, but a pencil will do nicely).

Put it at 0.45 on the left end of the box and 0.6 on the right.

Pretty good fit to the data, yes?

Try it the other way, with 0.6 on the left and 0.45 on the right (or any other small decline).

Oops.

It's a cute illusion, caused by the clutter of monthly data points, a large y-axis compared to the changes, and including only a few years, including the unusually warm one of 1998 and the unusually cool ones of 2001-2002.

But, even with all that, the current warming rate of about +0.15-0.20 degrees/decade can still clearly be seen.

This graph is much more illuminating, though.

C02 makes up 0.04 % of the greenhouse gases, increases in temperature increase C02 not the other way round.

Nobody ever mentions Water vapour, quote from Wikipedia "Water vapor is a larger contributor to the greenhouse effect that CO2"

Greens always say that the temperature of the earth has increased by 1 degree fahrenheit over the last 100 years but they dont mention when the intial reading was done (1880) it was colder than average.

According to the Greens, during the post-war boom global warming should have pushed temperatures up. But the opposite happened. "As a matter of the fact, the decrease in temperature, which was very noticeable in the 60s and 70s led many people to fear that we would be going into another ice age,"

Quote from a website "Even in recent times, the temperature has not behaved as it should according to global warming theory. Over the last eight years, temperature in the southern hemisphere has actually been falling"

Still believe it?

Electric or Gas, Gas or Electric?
I WANT SOLAR
I need to convert my old oil furnace and all the ducting to a new energy system. What about solar? If that's not a viable option, wouldn't an electric furnace be better than natural gas one? I don't want to use fossil fuels anymore than is absolutely necessary or required because of lack of other options. Electricity can be powered by wind and solar if you buy "green" with your utility. It's too bad the oil money stifles development of alternatives. The worlds oil productions have peaked and are now in decline, as evidenced by the US. In the 70's the US WAS the Saudi Arabia of oil. Not to mention all the polutents I would spare all of us, if I could go solar. Hasn't anyone out there accomplished this? If so, please share?
Sincerely, Tracy
