what is far more worrying is People with your point of view, you may feel at home in no 3
Global Warming is a giant can of worms.
The impacts Of Global warming are great rifts in many general points of view ,Splitting humanity apart philosophically, politically and socially.
Not to speak of the physical & mental.aspects concerning all life on Earth .
We need more categories
There are several main frames that include CLIMATE CHANGE,
Global Warming ?,
Global warming and People¿ ,
People and Climate change(yes)
------------------------------...
1)A lot of people are into the physics of Global warming.
Its existence(true or not),
Its causes,
Its meanings ,
Its timings.
2)Some try to Explain ,Deny or Justify that .
3)Others want to be blissful in ignorance and will fight hard to maintain that.
4)And some sell this view for other more devious motives
5)Some don, t give a damn for the planet but are more concerned with Humanity, as if the two can be separated
6)Others are concerned about the planets present conditions in relation to life as a whole, and what has caused so much damage in the past as well as, and accelerating today ,that with intelligence ,foresight and ingenuity could have been prevented.
This is the undeniable Human factor.the desertification s ,deforestations ,pollutions, the pillaging s of Nature and the vast changes made on this planets surface .
We have all together here opened a giant can of worms, that appears to increase in complication daily
There are NO single explanations
Take your pick of any of the many views that are given.

Well, we came out of an ice age so the earth seems to be in a warming cycle. The real question is if it is man's fault. No. The global warming crowd is ridiculous. You should get a clue when they tell you that global warming can trigger an ice age. That is totally ridiculous. I mean c'mon. Think people! If you put water on the stove does heating it up trigger a freezing? They just say that to scare you, that's all. But think for yourselves because the logic they use is ridiculous.
You guys should read about the "Little Ice Age" that occurred in medieval times. Here is a quote from the referenced source below, "Western Europe experienced a general cooling of the climate between the years 1150 and 1460 and a very cold climate between 1560 and 1850 that brought dire consequences to its peoples. The colder weather impacted agriculture, health, economics, social strife, emigration, and even art and literature. Increased glaciation and storms also had a devastating affect on those that lived near glaciers and the sea."
Do you think that the little ice age was caused by man using not enough, or too much, energy???

Hear, hear! Somewhere along the line, the 'theory' part of 'global warming' got left out and it became the 'fact' of 'global warming.'
I don't think that there is enough information to conclusively prove or disprove global warming. First, where are the temperatures being taken? Have cities encroached on what were previously isolated weather stations, thereby forming a 'metropolitan heat sink' - causing temperatures to rise by default?
How are glaciers being measured? Which glaciers are being measured - all of them, or just the ones that prove one or another persons 'fact'?
While I'm all in favour of not polluting our environment, the Earth has warmed and cooled many, many, many times and I'm not convinced that this period of 'warming' is any different than the period of 'cooling' was over 30 years ago.
For whatever the reason, I think that we can all agree that polluting less is a good thing to do.

Problems of this kind can be cured by education in some individuals. The written record of humans are not the only records. Ice core samples give data back tens of thousands of years. The geologic record in the form of sedimentary layers gives more. Global Warming is only unproven to people who don't know or choose to ignore the data.

No, because massive amounts of data prove global warming is real. The scientific community isn't bothered, except by the reality of global warming.
Only a few scientists with no data thought the world was cooling in the 70s. More details:
http://www.realclimate.org/index.php?p=94
They were basically like the "skeptics" of today. They were nothing like the global warming scientists of today, with massive amounts of data (proof) and the backing of every major scientific organization in the world.
"I wasn’t convinced by a person or any interest group—it was the data that got me. I was utterly convinced of this connection between the burning of fossil fuels and climate change. And I was convinced that if we didn’t do something about this, we would be in deep trouble.”
Vice Admiral Richard H. Truly, USN (Ret.)
Former NASA Administrator, Shuttle Astronaut and the first Commander of the Naval Space Command
Here are two summaries of the mountain of peer reviewed data that convinced Admiral Truly and the vast majority of the scientific community, short and long.

Because of the data, there's vastly less controversy in the scientific community than you might guess from the few skeptics talked about here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_opinion_on_climate_change
http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/306/5702/1686 and:
"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know... Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point. You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."
Dr. Jerry Mahlman, NOAA

You don't need records from millions of years ago to see that the Earth is currently warming. The fact that Earth is warming today does not exclude that it has warmed/been warmer in the past.
Ps. There was a global cooling during the 1940s to the 1970s. It was due to Aerosols (they reflect Sun light).

maybe because you're too busy thinking of yourself that you don't notice the effects of global warming.
As the ice melts in Antarctica, the water level rises and soon the animals will lose their habitats. If you've read past news on Yahoo!, they were talking about some European countries sinking in the future because of this. Polar bears will be extinct by 2010 or so if this keeps on going.
Humans cut trees to build themselves houses or expand their territory, destroying the animal's niche while doing so. The trees also absorb the carbon dioxide in return for the oxygen that we breathe and allows us to live. When we lose them, the whole place will get warmer and even more polluted.
People cutting trees, polluting the place with plastics and things > Death of animals & Warm condition > Melting of the ice > Death of Animals > Water level rises > death of animals... so on and so forth...
You see that in almost everything we do, animals die. Now, what will happen when the animals that we depend on die?

There is ample proof that the earth is warming.
It is only vested interests which includes people like you and me who would like to continue with the present state of affairs.
The rainfall has increased and continues to increase because of higher evaporation form the sea.
The glaciers in the Artic and Himalayas are melting rapidly.
We have become so used to comforts like cars, electricity and consumer products that we cannot imagine life without them.
European and American countries have not really cleaned up their pollution as it looks apparently. They have merely transferred these manufacturing activities to China and India.
That mankind will survive these changes is beyond doubt and humans have the knowledge to adopt to extreme weather conditions. How our plants and animals will adopt is a big question.

You are right about the records, and many of them are suspect, although the IPCC had done its best to make them credible. The earth is not only millions of years old, but estimated to be over 4 billion years old. That puts our data at much less than 1% (in fact it is 1% of 1% of 1% of...etc.).
In fact, if you read the latest report from the IPCC (Working Group 1....the WG that has all the data...) it says that 60% of the Global Warming is due to water vapor (yes boys and girls, water vapor is a greenhouse gas), 30% is due to carbon dioxide that is not manmade (yes boys and girls, 75% of the carbon dioxide is NOT manmade...IPCC and Al Gore both agree to this) and 10% is due to man. This data was inconveniently (pun intended) left out of Al Gore's movie and the IPCC summary report to everyone.
There is alot of data taken from ice cores in greenland (why do they call it greenland...you would be surprised to know) and the antarctic that I have reviewed. This goes back half a million years or so. But in itself, is not conclusive. But it does beg the question...Why did the water level increase at a rate of 2-3 feet a year about 10,000 years ago for about a 100 years? What SUV's were being driven back then?? (This is also in the IPCC report..

There is no global warming. Years ago scientist thought that the ozone layer was being depleted by radon and car emissions. It turns out that the ozone layer is actually thicker than when they last measured it. The hole at the North Pole is supposed to be there because the sunlight deflects easily. One small volcano can do more damage to the atmosphere than all of the cars and factories in the entire history of Man.
The environmental movement has many sincere people who are concerned with the ecosystem and the future. However, the ones who control things behind the scenes have other motives.
