I am in my mid 30's, married, have two children, bought a house in a rural small town, got a pickup truck and suddenly realized that I now what I had always despised. It all started quite simply. I got married, had a child and then the wife decided that we needed to buy a house. The problem is that she is a career student, so we are living off my income. So, when she started looking at house loans, she found a no down payment government loan that required us to buy a house in a rural town. I had always biked to work, so my wife's car was always enough. But, now that we would be living out of town, my father-in-law offered to give me his old pickup, so that I would have a vehicle. So, now, I can no longer cycle to work, and have to drive miles to go shopping. This is how I became a redneck. Guess I'm SOL. Any advice?

Car pool to work with other red necks. Start living green in your new home and show the red necks how cheap it is to live green. Grow a vegetable garden and plant some fruits, maybe some nuts. Buy a few chickens for free range eggs and country fried chicken. Get a couple of goats for milk and quit making those expensive trips to the store. If you can't fight 'em, join 'em.

Everyone should accept the consequences of their own free will. If the consequences are unacceptable, they have the free will make a different choice. If your wife made all these decisions and you agreed, then agreeing to decisions you don't like is your problem. Problems need to be solved unless you don't really mind becoming a redneck.

There is help available. Buy any Jeff Foxworthy's videos, you'll find out pretty soon. There is a 50% chance that you became a redneck if you moved to Louisiana. Also look around your backyard, any junk?

So, what's wrong with being a redneck? And be grateful that you have a pickup to drive, you could be "thumbing" it to work.

Go with it. Embrace your new way of life. You need to change your hairstyle to a mullet, start chewing tobacco and don't forget lots of plaid flannel shirts.
