If I replace my old refrigerator and air conditioner with energy efficient ones isn’t there a tremendous negative effect on the environment? There are the natural materials that need to be extracted from the earth, the energy (factory) used to produce the new products, the staff, and trucking. Then there is the sales environment (building, lights, energy to operate the building, sales people, shipping, my driving to the store – maybe several stores to find the best deal.) Now what to do with the old appliances? More energy to recycle or fill up the land. This doesn’t sound like a good deal for the environment. Shouldn’t we just fix our old items before thinking of replacing them, even if they aren't energy smart?

Hmmm, ever heard the saying: "a vegan in a hummer will produce less greenhouse gases than a carnivore on a bicycle" ?
The number one way to cut back on our greenhouse gas emmissions is to stop the factory farms. Livestock is the biggest contributor to the greenhouse gases, yet, most of you are still eating meat. Regardless of that fact, It's all a bunch of political crap right now anyways, We as humans really don't contribute that much, even with the livestock. It is all inevitable. Yes, we should try to cut back on producing the greenhouse gases, but it won't reverse anything.
Just thought I'd let you all in on the little secret that :

If you're eating meat on your plate and bitching about how nobody else is helping save the environment, stuff it. You're contributing more than gas guzzling suv drivers. You're a liar and a hypocrite if you say you care about all this global warming stuff while eating that burger.

It's been said here that the global warming models are not available to the public. That statement is flat wrong. It no doubt came from repeating denier propaganda from politically biased websites.

It took me all of 5 minutes to find this one. I'm sure there are more available publicly.

Now, I'm very dubious of the technical ability of anyone here (except Trevor) to get this up and running. But it's available, complete with extensive documentation.

http://www.ccsm.ucar.edu/models/ccsm3.0/

So there it is. Have fun with it. I look forward to proof that global warming is not man made. As does the rest of the scientific community. No one has managed to prove that yet, though many have tried.

How hard is it to add to an existing home? How much power would one panel generate? Can you install yourself? Any idea of start-up cost?

Notice that the question says "contributed to", not "caused".

Joseph Romm, for whom I have a lot of respect (former Acting Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy and author of 'The Hype About Hydrogen' and 'Hell and High Water') writes:

"the question isn’t whether modern bridges are built to cope with extremes, but whether more extremes than anyone might have designed for contributed to the unusual collapse of a “structurally deficient” bridge. As noted, the NTSB itself has not ruled out the weather as a contributing factor."

http://climateprogress.org/2007/08/06/did-climate-change-contribute-to-the-minneapolis-bridge-collapse/

So I'm curious as to what people think about this. Could the current climate change be significant enough to have contributed to this bridge's collapse, or is this theory a stretch?

it is said that global warming is a fake matter invented by pseudo scientists and opportunist politicians, that has no real basis, serving just to feed lazy organization by power and money with the politic goal of blocking the development of countries in pursuit of their industrialization

I don't think it is. A lot of people I know think this weather is what is gonna melt the polar ice caps. I know it's just a common thing that we have had in the past. We had some hot summers in the 80s and 90s. I remember the summer of 2002 when it was in the 100s for a whole week straight.

I remember when we all had the extreme cold on Easter Sunday 2007.
Even as far South as Florida it was cold on Easter Sunday.
With December like weather. Remember that?

Whats exactly is Global Warming? Last year was my last year of high school, and my science teacher said that due to Global Warming, the Earth and everyone in it will be dead in about 20 to 30 years. is that true? can scientists predict when Global Warming will kill us? Is there any way to get rid of the Global Warming, or at least slow it down?

I mean if the world was changed so drastically that civilisation collapsed and humanity found itself in a cool mediaeval-like fantasy world, threatened by monsters (nuclear plants might collapse, causing weird mutations) and surrounded by the incomprehensible remnants of an older far more advanced civilisation (so that would be like magic).

Wouldn't that be excellent?

Pass carbon taxes and restrict business and industry in the U.S. and Europe and you'll accelerate outsourcing of manufacturing and services to Asia where pollution laws are more lax.

Or that people who listen to his message will all of sudden stop listening because some noodlehead needs to vent?

There's a lot of good information available to corroborate much of what Gore has been saying all these years. Some of the climate change projections are just very educated guesses, yes. Theories. But anyone who read "Earth in the Balance" once upon a time knows that Gore has been on this message and on the message hard since before it was "popular" to do so.
