Global warming theory has been developing for over a century now, so it's hard to pin down a single person who "invented" it.

The greenhouse effect was discovered by Joseph Fourier in 1829. In 1896 Swedish Chemist Svante Arrhenius calculated the effect a doubling of atmospheric carbon dioxide would have on the global temperature (mostly in an attempt to explain the ice ages). And in 1939 Guy Stewart Callendar proposed that the observed 20th century warming could be explained by anthropogenic emissions of CO2.

You can read a comprehensive history of the theory here:

Well.. the current warming cycle started something like 10,000-20,000 years ago. So global warming was invented by the cavemen?

No one "invented" global warming. The current global warming is simply happening as a result of human activities--primarily the burning of massive amounts of fossil fuels (oil, coal, natural gas).

Just like gravity and electricity, no one "invented" global warming. Unless you think it's an act of god or something. It's a natural process than has been expedited and thrown out of balance.

For goodness sakes, it's not an invention like the lightbulb. It's an observation based on a lot of data, like the tides or phases of the Moon.

The phrase or the event? Humans created the event ... and some guy or gal somewhere coined the phrase. The question is: what are we going to do about it?

Whoever "invented" it must also have known that "fear is the predecessor of all failure."

If you fear the future, you can't make a future.

The ultimate control of the despot is the use of fear.
