Hmmm, ever heard the saying: "a vegan in a hummer will produce less greenhouse gases than a carnivore on a bicycle" ?
The number one way to cut back on our greenhouse gas emmissions is to stop the factory farms. Livestock is the biggest contributor to the greenhouse gases, yet, most of you are still eating meat. Regardless of that fact, It's all a bunch of political crap right now anyways, We as humans really don't contribute that much, even with the livestock. It is all inevitable. Yes, we should try to cut back on producing the greenhouse gases, but it won't reverse anything.
Just thought I'd let you all in on the little secret that :

If you're eating meat on your plate and bitching about how nobody else is helping save the environment, stuff it. You're contributing more than gas guzzling suv drivers. You're a liar and a hypocrite if you say you care about all this global warming stuff while eating that burger.

oh, and it's not peta I get my info from. yes, plants do cause the most greenhouse gases, hence the part of my 'question' stating we as humans don't do that much. But as humans, livestock is our number one contributor to the 'problem'. It's not our vehicles or our industries, it's the fact that we mass produce (not to mention TORTURE) livestock. And, it's also a major contributor to water pollution as well.

But that burger tastes so good. And since were all going to die anyway, why not die happy.

I'd rather die from a massive coronary than choke on a carrot.

Anyway plants produce as much or more methane than animals, they don't teach that to you at PETA.

umm...I think you're being a little harsh on the non-vegans out there (like me). And it's a little extreme to ask people to stop eating meat. Okay, yes, we know global warming is a problem, but there are other ways of reducing the CO2 emissions, such as changing out the bulbs in your house to energy efficient ones. And besides, even if we ARE contributing more than the SUV drivers...it doesn't really matter in the end. A vegan in a hummer is still contributing to the problem. Maybe we should focus less on who's the most guilty, and accept the fact that we ALL are guilty in some way, and work together to make compromises that can help save our beautiful earth.

I am An Environmentalist and have know many Vegans they all looked sickly and had a number of health complaints
we need a balanced diet consisting on some proteins as well
But we are eating and subsequently farming the wrong meat
we should be farming deer and wild boar ,with out diminishing of damaging the Forrest´s,with much less cholesterol
as well as eating more bugs .

To add to your arguement, to eat meat giving you the same energy requires 10 times as many plants to be grown to feed the cow/chicken/pig/etc. (Approximatley 10% of eaten energy is retained in the consumer.)

The environmentalist just trot out there "reduce man-made CO2 by 90%" arguement again and again while claiming that this can be done without any significant degradation of the standard of living. That's simply not true.

Even if you accept that (1) Global warming will continue catastrophically and (2) that only man-made sources of CO2 are the cause, you can't claim it can be fixed using only "minor changes" while the number for reduction you use is NINETY PERCENT!

I love that! I couldn't quantify it but methane is an important greenhouse gas. I've heard this before that animals raised for their flesh contribute to warming in their own way. I'm sure the buffalo herds that used to cover several states did too. I wouldn't know where to start trying to analyze their contribution. I know that nothing approaches CO2 in importance, but the data is worth tracking.

Hee hee hee. Love it!

Yeah, it's true about the vegan in the Hummer, but what we need is vegans on bikes. LOT'S of them.

Like you, I continue to be amazed at how people can talk the talk (say they want to do what's right for the environment), but they *will not* walk the walk. I wouldn't say that people are lying hypocrites, but I *would* say that denial is more than a river in Egypt.

(BTW, "Relax. You'll live longer.")

I'm not vegetarian but according to science what you say is absolutely correct:

I've also discovered that I really enjoy a good steak much more when I have one once in two months. I've cut down mostly for health reasons and my age. Perhaps if GW ends up being true I'll quit all together?

Your 'not' a question is probably sincere, but the fact of the matter is GW is a BIG problem and everyone HAS to do their part (no matter what that may be) to afford our children's children a safe environment to raise their children. And I think we can do it, if everyone reading this will just do one thing (at their discretion) to help cut the emissions..even simple things like switching light bulbs...how hard is that? If you haven't seen it, rent it...Gore's Inconvenient Truth...it gave me a better understanding of what's happening! God help us all if things don't change!

umm...R/U a veggie eater? Like it or not, U/R just as much as a contributor as the rest of us meat eaters...........in order to grow veggies, it requires fertilizer.....and guess what...that's a whole lot of manure! We all have to do our part to save our planet...whatever that "part" is.................
