Depends how you look at it. Both in West Virginia.

On Dec 6, 1907 there was an explosion in the Monongah mine that killed 361.

The Hawk's Nest Tunnel caused silicosis in 476 workers. These are known cases. Some guess the number to be from 700 - 2000 people might have died from this work.
