I think the people that believe it are mainly the older people for one reason they was there when the climate was normally . Some people are calling global warming a religion . A religion is something you cant see well guess what us old people have lived long enough to see it so it is not a religion its a fact to us . What the cause is i have no idea but it is very much real . I think we are coming to a point in our lives that we are all going to have to change the way we think the way we live and come up with an entirely new plan .
We need to stop thinking like the old .We can no longer measure a man by his wealth . We can no longer follow the wealthy they have the earth so screwed up now with the pollution the shortage of oil global warming you name it greed just isn't working for most of us our kids well it would be my grand kids deserve better then to be a follower of the rich . I do not trust them with my grand children . We need a new system . Don't get me wrong keep the freedom and the comforts but lets give the small people a chance beside shutting them up and doing everything the rich mans ways . Can you imagine how many good ideas went down the toilet because somebody didn't have the money to invest or the rich man suppressed it because it got in the way of his riches.
We could all have free energy by now and growing our own food all year round in our own green houses . Free energy you can do anything .You could be anything you want to be do anything you want to do . You can water and feed the world with free energy.

An opinion is a subjective account of a sensory experience (i.e., this Apple is delicious). You don't hold an "opinion" on global warming theory. You believe it to either be true or untrue based upon your factual understanding of the nature of reality.
When someone says, "I think more and more people are accepting global warming theory", they are not making an opinionated statement. They believe that statement is factually tenable.
Unless the other people answering this question present verifiable data to support their point, they should simply be ignored.
Just my 2¢ worth.
That said, a recent Gallup poll [1] showed that in 2007, 86% of Americans believed that global warming was "already happening or going to happen in the future", compared with last year and 2001, when 88% agreed with the above statement both years. So all in all it appears that the number of Americans who accept the theory is holding steady at about 87% over the past decade; although the poll also showed that only 66% of Americans believe the warming is caused primarily or completely by human activities.

This is a response to "Slappy".
Slappy, I have no problem if you don't choose to believe the overwhelming scientific evidence about global warming, but please don't go and talk about things that are clearly untrue! There are so many things wrong with your post, well, let me count the ways!:
1. When you say, "Anytime Billions of metric tons of ice melt, I would expect water to come from it. But did they tell you that the rise in water will only be about 6-8 inches,"
I take it you got that info from the link to howstuffworks that you posted. But if you would have bothered to read the article more carefully, you'll see that they say that over the past 100 years the earth has warmed about .5C, and this has caused sea levels to rise about 6-8 inches. They did not say that this would be the outcome of the northern ice caps melting in the FUTURE, this rise has already occurred, as in the PAST!!!! They go on to state that if Greenland lost all of it's ice, sea levels would rise about 20 feet!!! Now my first question to you is did you just skim through the article and misintrupet it, or did you selectively choose what you would post here to support your viewpoint?
2. You said:
"The orbit E-arth takes is not perfectly round nor distanced from the big bright thing either....sometimes we are close, sometimes we are far.
I'll bet you can figure out what happens when E-arths orbit is close, and when it is far.
Closer to heat = warmer planet
Further from heat = cooler planet"
You could not be more completely wrong on this! The earth orbits the sun in an elliptical orbit, which means 2X every year we are close to the sun, and 2X we are far from the sun. Are you stating this to describe the change of seasons?? Because if you are, once again you are dead wrong! The change of seasons is caused by the tilt of the earth's axis. When the northern hemisphere is pointed towards the sun, it's summer here. When the southern hemisphere is pointed towards the sun, it's summer down there! Actual distance from the sun has nothing to do with out change in seasons. Duh!
3. "Environmental extremeists run around the Scientific community using all sorts of "data" claiming 'global this' and 'environmental that'...the data they have only spans about 100 years. E-arth has been around for Billions..."
Actually, scientists can tell what the climate was like using ice cores dug out from various parts of the world. They can tell what the temp was like 1000's of years ago, plus other things, like how much CO2 was in the atmosphere.
4. (Oh, I am too funny)
I don't get it. Seriously, did you make a joke or something?
5. "Well... these 'solar flares' emit heavy doses of radiation which hurl themselves through the big black thing. Now don't quote me on this, but something tells me the radiation is not as "cool" as it sounds. As a matter of fact, I bet when it charges the particles it hits, they become HOT!"
There's a good article I posted below about how the solar flare hypothesis has been disproven by scientists, and also how global warming denyers distorted it to fit their cause. The link you provided about solar flares was just a basic informative page about what they actually are.
So Slappy, basically everything you just posted here is wrong! Now were you just careless in your answer, or did you actually take the time to make all of this up??? If so, why??? Is it a political thing with you? Are you a large shareholder of a major oil or coal company who stands to profit the longer we postpone taking effective measures to reduce our carbon emmissions? Or do you just like to take the other side of the arguement all the time? Whatever it is, I hope your entire post was just one big joke that only you understood.

Do you think about if people believe the Sun is 93 million miles from Earth, or light travels at 186,000 mps? Of course not since almost anyone can duplicate the test that prove these values.
However no one can duplicate the opinions of "global warming", not even the scientist that study the climate. A consensus is 50%+1.
However believing the world gives some people purpose and gives others excitement in their other wise dull lives.

I was watching a "Discovery" program, and it actually made a lot of scene. I guess it was more logical for someone that believes in evolution then to anyone that holds the BIBLE as truth. However, this scientist says they have researched and found evidence that the earth has killed herself and it's inhabitants at least 5 or 6 times prior. According to him, the earth begins to build up so much CO2 that it becomes poisonous and everything dies and goes through an ice age and the cycle begins again.
I believe that we are the 1st inhabitant to contribute to this cycle and we are definitely accelerating the cycle this time. We humans are polluting the environment and my belief is that we are killing our #1 best resource, trees. Mature trees not only give off beneficial gases, they cool the earth and the air around them. Only my opinion.

I don't know how many people believe in global warming but I think more are aware of it due to the recent media attention. I know I view global warming as a major problem that has the potential to have a major impact on the Earth in the future. Just the thought of increased air pollution, diminishing ozone layer, increased entry of harmful UV rays entering the atmosphere is extremely scary to me. I think it should be a cause of major concern in many people.

Its a load of cr4p. The Earth has gone through cycles of being warmer, then cooler, warmer, then cooler. And its had nothing to do with us. When the climate lowered by a couple of degrees, were we responsible?? No, we didn't even exist. I will go as far as to say that we probably dont help, but it was going to happen. It went cold by a few degrees, now its balancing itself out by going up a few degrees. Bizarre thing, this planet. And we barely know anything in detail how it works. Leave it do it thing, we'll just have to change around it....or die....

To answer your question all the smart people in the Globe, (despite their political affiliations) do believe in Global warming because it does exist (and yes apparently, to my surprise Global Warming is a political issue now).
I believe its happening atm however I have realised that since Al Gore tried to enlighten the folks, it became a negative political issue for supporters of that other guy who stole the election from him the first time uhh what's his name?
Anyhow, those supporters seem to be very aggressive promoters to the opposite of whatever Al Gore says so, it doesn't matter whether he is right or not to them and that really concerns me because you have a situation that requires a simple effort on everyone's behalf and they choose to ignore it.
I bet if Al Gore told them that sea water is salty they would find an argument to the contrary.

Even most Americans think it's real and man is making it significantly worse.
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1176975,00.html
This is in spite of the fact that they wrongly think there is a lot of disagreement among scientists (page 2 of the article.
The rest of the educated world thinks it's even more real, man made, and a problem. As has been said, the disinformation campaign is mostly centered in the US.

I'm thinking more people are at least aware of the problem, considering all of the studies that have been published, and all the emphasis on green living (and how many corporations are trying to do that).
