Is there somewhere that recycles old batteries for free? I don't want to just throw them away once they are used since it's bad for the environment. Is there a service like what Lexmark and HP have for returning old inkjet cartridges?

It seems to me that a major source of pollutants like carbon monoxide, sulfur and nitrogen oxides, not to mention greenhouse gasses, are emitted by our automobile fleet. Most commuters in suburbs think it is not only convenient, but practically necessary to commute, by themselves, in cars. How can we take grassroots actions to work with or cut across city and county bureaucracies to make public transportation a convenient alternative?

The question is does it really matter where the source is. If your house was burning would you add fuel to the fire or try to save what you got with everything in your power. The world pop has doubled since the 20's, # of vehicles have skyrocket, pressure on resources is maxed out, can someone really tell me that all that doesn't add up and create more energy (heat)

They have too many people and pollute too much. Lets get out of Iraq and into China. It's the only way to save us from Global Warming. We must take action soon or we will all die. The world will be one big desert. We will die from Global Warming in 10 years unless we level China and India. Let me know what ya'll think of my new idea to save the world.

According to the Arcimedes Principle, the volume of an object= the amount of water it displaces. The topic for World Environment Day 2007 is : Melting Ice A Hot Topic. The UNEP website talks about the melting ice caps and how they are flooding small islands. If the Archimedes Principle is correct, should melting ice lead directly to the flooding of small islands?

P.S. If I got anything wrong, please don't hesitate to tell me. I am only a kid whose mother told her about this Principle.

In my job, I sometimes deal with invasive plant species and someone has asked me to help eradicate a plant he identified as Wild Chevelle. I can't find anything about this. He may have the name wrong, so if you have any ideas of what this might be, let me know. This is in Western Pennsylvania and he said the plant sort of looks like Queen Anne's Lace. It's in full bloom right now. Any ideas? I haven't had a chance to go see it yet. Thanks.

I can't believe how much of it has melted - at least a quarter of it.

Now, the question... If 25% of the ice sheet has disappeared, then why hasn't the sea level risen at all yet? It hasn't gone up one centimeter.

Imagine if ALL of the Arcitc ice sheet melts. Four multiplied by a rise of 0 centimeters is still 0 centimeters.

I mean, we've all been told that all that melting ice will make the oceans rise.

Could the doomsday experts be wrong?

I find a hillside of wind turbines one of the most graceful, inspiring things I've ever seen. I think they're overwhelmingly beautiful not just because of their size and grace but because along with those qualities, they may help us save our world (not to be trite, but every little bit helps!)

My parents, on the other hand, who I always thought were environmentally concious and not hypocrites, have a "not in our area" view about them. They've just retired to a nearly-100 acre farm nestled in a valley surrounded by wooded mountains. Yes, it is idyllic, but it would also be a perfect place for wind harvesting. It's so windy there that they have to tie their porch furniture down! BUT they're ready to fight tooth and nail if someone tries to put a turbine anywhere NEAR their property. Even if it's not in their view! They claim it makes a lot of noise, kills birds, and will lower their property value.

I'm upset they feel this way. How much of this is true? What are your thoughts?
