All of a sudden when things get bad people want to jump in but why have people not been doing this for hundreds of years now to protect our resources? Al Gore makes a video and people want to actually do something NOW. Seems to me that it is just like Sept. 11th, people cared right after it happened but now they care less. Is that how people will act a few years from now about "becoming greener?"

I don't live in my own home. I actually live with family. They have the weather stripping, insulted hot water heater, etc. But I'm wondering about things I can do without changing the household that is not mine anyway. Don't say to go buy a hybrid vehicle, I don't have the money to and unless you want to pay for it then I'm keeping my Ford truck AKA gas guzzler.

We all know the Earth cannot reflect back all huge energy from the Sun, could scientist create a space umbrella with reflect clothes, by air plumb and open on the space just over the major Ocean. may be cover miles of Ocean area, lower down a little bit of the Sun heat. That may cost a lot, but it can also use for long time and lower down lot of Sun heat. It can just cover the Ocean, but not the earth area.

Hello 'non-believers': I personally do believe that human is the main cause of GW, but I also recognize the arguments that you guys have- natural cycles, massive green house gases made by nature...etc I think you guys have some good points and I do not have good statements to prove you wrong.

But. consider this, what they ask you to do, are something like:
1. Ride your bike if you can
2. Use public transportation if possible
3. Drive a smaller car if possible, instead of a SUV
4. Plant more trees
5. Use a energy saving light bulbs
6. Turn off the appliances that you don't use
7. Insulate your house better to save energy to heat it up

I mean, those things are really easy to do, and they're all beneficial to us. No matter what and who creates global warming, why can't we just do it? If one day I find that they're all BS, ok, what will I lose? I am benefited by doing them. But, WHAT IF THEY WERE RIGHT about human creating GW? It may be already too late by then.

Why Is Antarctica Colder Since 1957?

"As one example, at the South Pole, where the U.S. decades ago established a station, temperatures have actually fallen since 1957. Neither is Antarctica's advance or retreat a new question raised by the spectre of global warming: This is the oldest scientific question of all about the Antarctic ice sheet."

Please say whether you beleive the following statements are true or false...

1 - Without ANY 'greenhouse gases' in our atmosphere the temperature of the planet would be considerably colder

2 - Nitrogen, oxygen and argon make up more than 99.9% of our atmosphere, these gases do not contribute to global warming

3 - Water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide are the main 'greenhouse gases'

Thanks for answering.

I know that global warming is fact, but I have been told by some that it will cause me to die? How? If it gets a bit hotter, big deal, sea rises doesn't matter as I live inland, more rain, got good drainage and doesn't flood. The supermarkets will still sell food.

I have to say sci-fi so when it comes true I can say it was just a guess...

The USA just shut down a weather/Global Warming testing satellite because they now know Global Warming is happening at a MUCH faster rate than expected and they need to hide this fact to the public.

In less than 5 years the world will not even look the same.

ALSO, the President has been acting all weird in the last month because he just saw the light that within just a few months and years Global Warming is going to crush the USA economy. He is trying to to GOOD THINGS like let in the people from Mexico and also propose CO2 limits at the G8 because he knows he will be blamed for ignoring the Global Warming predictions and they are going to happen very soon and the CAN NOT BE STOPPED NOW NO MATTER WHAT WE DO... IT IS TOO LATE.

Sci-Fi Prediction - Complete Global Chaos and Nukes being used within 2 years.

I know it also depends on individual effort, but compared to what the Govt can do what an individual does is like a drop in the ocean.

I think if there is a will, from the politicians there is certainly a way out of this eco - disaster.

For Example:
1. Govt can start by converting all its vehicles (Govt owned) to
a less polluting LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) fuel?
2. Convert all public transport vehicles (city buses) to a LNG.
3. Open new Nuclear plants (France relies more than 90% on nuclear power to supply all its enery needs!!!)
4. Allow businnesses and all other companies to encourage (with perks, tax deductions) for employees to
use public transport)
5. Build more Wind power towers all across the country

One answer can be money, where can the Govt get so much money, answer is instead of throwing the money down the drain in wars a fraction of it can
solve lot of the environmental issues in this country.

Please offer your comments and answers.

I would like to convert to Bio Diesel and get a DIY kit to put in my work shed. Trouble is I live in Montana and it gets cold here in the winter (below freezing). I have heard that cold and bio diesel don't really agree with each other. Is there a tank heater available I could put on my vehicle's gas tank to keep the fuel warm enough to use? Would I also need a block heater?

It's the greatest single threat to solving the climate crisis in a decade.

It sounds crazy. But Congress is rushing through a package that could lock us into liquid coal as our country's new energy source for transportation. For every mile driven, coal-based fuels produce as much as twice as many greenhouse gases as petroleum. That means even a Prius would drive like a Hummer.

The coal industry has been lobbying for this break for years, and many in Congress don't understand the facts.

I was recently watching a discussion between two individuals. One believed that global warming was real and was a response to manmade introduction of green house gases such as carbon dioxide into our environment. The other believed that we are seeing a normal climate shift that the earth has seen many many times before and that most climate shifts throughout the earths history have characteristically been quite rapid rather than occurring over hundreds and hundreds of years.

The second individual stated this fact which I had never heard before. By studying information related to all the previous prehistoric climate shifts it is apparent that temperatures increased BEFORE we see an increase in carbon dioxide levels. He believes that the increases in carbon dioxide are not CAUSATIVE to climate changes but rather a response to climate changes that normally occur on our earth.

Can anyone explain the fact that carbon dioxide increased AFTER temperatures increased.

As i understand the concept, you need to live in an isolated area, and be using wind and solar energy generating things/panels, etc.... What else? I guess you don't have to be isolated to use solar energy tho....
