We're poor, I'm not afraid to admit it. I'm married with a year-old son and a baby on the way. We're on CalWORKS (call it welfare if you want to be a jerk), and I just can't eat as healthy as I would like with food stamps - organic and vegetarian is just not an option for us. I can't use canvas shopping bags unless I get them for free. I can recycle and conserve energy - but that's about it.

But I want to DO MORE. Any tips?

What simple act can one person do to make up for the energy used by chatting on the computer about people needing to be more "green?"

I really, really don't want to put it in landfill, but obviously there's no point putting it in a charity shop when they can't sell it. it can probably be fixed, but I don't need it and i can't afford to pay for the repair. does anywhere take old stuff and fix it up? (around Glasgow?)

I see graphs that have them, and graphs that do not. I have read that they tie in with sunspot activity, and I have read sunspots have nothing to do with the earth's temperature, tho I have read the recent sunspots have even warmed up Saturn in one news brief on Yahoo..

I see charts that show major warming every 100,000 years, more than todays, followed by a steep fall almost immediately into deep glacial conditions.

I read history that seems to support the MWP, and I hear of Environmentalists who deny there was such a thing.

Why is the MWP not studied, if it was real, and the data published for review? Why are the conditions for the 100,000 year peaks not being studied and causes published?

Why when I asked about the Martian warming I have heard about, I get data from 2004, not 2007, denying it?

Did historically during the MWP the Vikings find grapes growing in Greenland and/or Iceland. or not?

And many graphs show the temp varying in the same curves as sunspots. Why?

Anthropogenic (man-made) GW skeptics can't explain why atmospheric CO2 and global temperature are increasing at the same rate over the past 5 decades.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjY4Q.RQ.wh1LBn_S.aTY34Fxgt.?qid=20070607125341AAwrVTY

If humans aren't the primary cause of the current global warming, then what is? The sun can't account for it:

"the increase of solar activity could have, on average, contributed approximately 75% of the 1900–1950 global warming but only 25–35% of the 1980–2000 global warming."

http://www.fel.duke.edu/~scafetta/pdf/2005GL025539.pdf

It's not volcanoes - they cause global cooling. It's not water vapor - its concentration is dependent on global temperature

http://www.agu.org/sci_soc/mockler.html

If you can't explain why currently atmospheric CO2 and global temperature are increasing at nearly the same time and rate, and you can't explain what else would cause the GW, when will you admit that it's primarily caused by us?

The existing plants we have are getting old and use less safe technology, but modern techniques make these plants ultra safe. The waste can be easily disposed of and is small compared to toxic emissions of coal plants. So why don't we build them? Cheaper, cleaner energy. I'd welcome a new nuclear plant in my neighborhood.

to hydrogen? Or will they claim that the water vapor from the hydrogen cars are heating up the environment as well since we know water vapor accounts for most of the greenhouse effect?

Speaking of water vapor, doesn't combustion have TWO by-products, why did they choose to hype up one of those by-products while ignoring the other one?

I think the benefit of a local economy now is the use of less fossil fuels. If we change over completely to sustainable fuels, would the world or its local communities benefit from local economies, more than if we continue our large scale international trade? Detailed answers appreciated.

Here are some facts that everyone should accept:

1) Historically, atmospheric CO2 increases have lagged behind (and amplified) global temperature increases by several centuries. This is an argument man-made GW skeptics often make, and it's true.

2) Currently, atmospheric CO2 concentrations and avg. global temperature are increasing at roughly the same time and rate:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Mauna_Loa_Carbon_Dioxide.png
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Instrumental_Temperature_Record.png

3) As a greenhouse gas, CO2 causes GW. It doesn't necessarily INITIATE GW - if something else has already initiated GW then CO2 will act as a feedback and amplify it - but increased atmospheric CO2 concentrations will cause GW to increase.

Now, if CO2 lags behind GW by centuries when something else initiates it, and CO2 and GW are currently increasing at the same time and rate, how do you account for this discrepancy if the current GW isn't primarily caused by humans?

an air conditioner, a large shrub, and a building made of brick?

How can an unbiased measurement of temperature be taken at one of these "microsites" when all of these objects can create a local variation in the temperature?

Are scientists so smart the can properly account for things like this?

What other problems are found at the actual sights of temperature measurement?

How does this constitute objectivity?

Does anybody have any experience of creating biofuel from oils (such as veg oil or anything recyclable?). If so where are good sources of instructions for creating it? How did you manage? Did it work?

Also, what are the rules (and laws) if any for creating this? How much does it sell for? Do you need licenses to sell fuel or is this classed as non dangerous?

All help appreciated.

My question is simple. If they are going to die out completely now if we do not resort to costly measures and surrender our freedoms as necessary to immediately reverse Global Warming, just why did they not die out in the Middle Ages warming?? No politicians and Alarmed Scientists to protect them then...how are they still around and thriving? And how did the Polar Bears make such a rapid comeback, or did the artic not melt in the middle ages?
