If we must all agree that there is "global warming" caused by man (and woman?) because that is the "consensus", does that mean that if the "consensus" was the opposite, then there would be no global warming?

Apparently, that would be the logical conclusion if you follow the "global warming" crowd! All we have to do to stop global warming is get a "consensus" and...POOF! ... no "global warming".

Seriously, I don't see it. Pure hydrogen doesn't just grow on trees, it takes energy to produce it and this energy usually comes from coal. And then even if you produce the energy some other way, you still have to build the infastructure to distribute the hydrogen. Does anyone know a good reason why governments and industry should invest in hydrogen when their are other options such as ultracapacitors?

It's easy for me to understand that reduction of fossil fuels would be bad for people who sell it. Etc. on that path

I have no idea who would gain or how
I have not seen al gore's movie and don't want to.
It's not even a matter of believing, it's real
even people who don't think it's real later say water vapor is the leading contributor of global warming. So they know it's real but they question CO2
That's the one we can actually control
and i could go on forever on its defense

but, assuming it is a "Hoax"
who cares?
Altering the way we live to use less energy and recycle more and all the things we can do...... are still beneficial
why would you not want a car using alot less gas
why would you not want to lower your energy consumption cost
all these things are good for your bank and the enviroment regardless of G.W.'s validity

if they are exaggerating it, which they are not
it's because you have to go that far just to get people's attention

Malaria. Dengue Fever. Encephalitis. These names are not usually heard in emergency rooms and doctors’ offices in the United States. But if we don’t act to curb global warming, they will be. As temperatures rise, disease-carrying mosquitoes and rodents spread, infecting people in their wake. Doctors at the Harvard Medical School have linked recent U.S. outbreaks of dengue fever, malaria, hantavirus and other diseases directly to climate change.
do you believe this? what are you doing to "go green"?

... posting Q&A, comments, etc. What do you think when you read that
“...your average Second Life avatar consumes about as much electricity as your average Brazilian....”
Nicholas Carr, a business writer and blogger, recently worked out that each of the 15,000 or so residents logged in at any one time consumes electricity as a result of their activities in the virtual world almost as fast as the average inhabitant of Brazil does in real life. Second Life's residents, Mr Carr
concluded, “don't have bodies, but they do leave footprints.”

(I got the impression that Second Life is not being singled out here, it just came in handy as the data for it has been calculated.)

Would you give up (or cut down on) your time on the internet for the sake of going green?

I have seen all kinds of questions here about outlawing plastic bags, race cars and so on. Everybody has a pet peeve that is a waste and should not be allowed. So, I was curious. How many people thing the world would be a better place if we all gave up cars, electricity, and all that stuff to live like the Amish, farming small plots of land by hand.

1) You have unusual pains, similar to gas pain you've had in the past but much worse than usual. You go to 10 doctors, and 9 say you need immediate life saving surgery. The 10th says you'll probably be fine. Would you accept that you need surgery, or wait it out?

2) You're caught committing a crime and talk to 10 lawyers. 9 of them say you should accept a plea bargain for a reduced sentence, the 10th says you should try your luck in court because he thinks you can get off. Do you accept the plea bargain, or try to get an innocent verdict?

3) The world is warming at a rapid rate. 9 out of 10 scientists say it's due to human greenhouse gas emissions and poses a serious danger if we don't reduce our emissions. The 10th scientist says it's probably just a natural cycle. Do you accept that we need to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions?

Please answer all 3 scenarios honestly.

Electric cars are out there they just seem very expensive. There has to be a way of making one at reasonable cost.

They built it in 1888. In 1896 the Woods Motor Vehicle Company became the first American manufacturer of the electric car. It was a good product; by 1904 one third of all the cars in Chicago, New York City and Boston were electric powered. And then by 1912 there were 20,000 electric cars and 10,000 electric trucks and buses in the United States. What happened here? Where did they go? And why am i paying 3.45 a gallon for a gas powered vehicle?

Electric cars should definitely be produced. It's not a technological problem; there IS no problem! The range easily exceeds sixty miles per charge and can be greatly improved. I saw a documentary on TV that convinced me that electric vehicles are feasible and low-polluting (actually zero-polluting, but emissions are produced by the generation of power). I'm far from a conspiracy theorist, but it's clear to me that electric vehicle production is blocked by car companies and oil companies in favor of what they view as maximum profit. And it's a shame.

They're not really all that expensive, and the price would go way down if they were mass produced, but car companies resist.

We all know that deforestation is a HUGE issue around the world. We've become dependant on resources that trees provide (after they're cut down). Have we forgotten the wonderful benefits that trees provide while they're still living? Or have we just decided that the importance of the trees' afterlife outweighs all others? What are some alternative resources that could be used to prevent the destruction of trees? Are there any?

Plot ratio is the ratio of the land area to the total floor space in a building - also called the Floor Space Index or Floor Area Ratio in the US. It is a measure of density for space. Tall buildings which have a large floor area due to the many floors in the building but a small "footprint" ie built on small plot of land, have high plot ratios. I am looking from a reliable source the average plot ratios for central areas in major cities such as London, NYC, Paris, Barcelona, HK and Singapore etc. Any pointers?
