Hi Spazzy, no one can say for sure what is going to happen in 2012, I have read the Mayan calander stuff too. But, being a Christian, I believe in God and what the Bible says is going to happen. And one thing is for sure, God is in control of the planet, the earth, the continents, and you and me. And God says the earth will never pass away. And Jesus will reign for a thousand years with us some day. So, that tells me that nothing devastating will happen to the earth. God can fix it all. No, I don't think we will die in 2012 and I don't think the continents are going to shift either. They have been predicting the poles shifting since I was 13, and it still hasn't happened. Because Bible prophecy talks about what is to come many years ahead from now, I believe that the poles will not shift - or not be an issue if they do shift. God will take care of us, trust in Him - He is in control of each and every day on earth, and it will be alright! :)

well, 2012 is in your lifetime... it's only 5 years from now.... (you'll be 18....) and the other guy is right, Mayan Calendars do say that 12-12-12 at 12:12 the world stops. the mayans had 5 calendars, that spanned for hundreds of years, and they all coincided with something.... every calendar seemed the same generally speaking compared to the first... the same types of things happend during each calendar, at similar times, somewhat like how the bible says what has happened will happen again, and what was once will be again.... But, honey, if God decides that is the day he wants to end it all, there's NOTHING we can do about it. Just trust in Him like it seems you do, because he's the only one that can save you.
the magnetic poles have changed many times. it is a relatively quick process, contrary to some that have answered before, but it does still take a while. Who knows, none of us do. Ask the earth. ;)
there have been 'horror stories' of the end of the world since humans could think about it 'ending'. its all stories. Our parents thought the same thing we do now, and our kids will think the same thing that we are. It's just human nature to wonder what will happen.
Don't stress about it. Good luck!!

This is sick now we have kids thinking that they are going to die because of SUV`s and this earth warming bull. this is over votes and they all know this. We have cleaned up the earth allot in the last 40 years. We can do more and are. The temps has been higher than it is and lot higher. We have had storms that make the ones we have had in the last 10 years look like a wimp. So we are NOT GOING TO DIE.....
So what if it gets 5 degrees warmer. That is not a big change.
Some one said the poles are going to melt and cover the world with water. In the winter the poles are more than 100 degrees below 0.

Somebody archaeologist decodes a Mayan calendar on some ruin in south America and it is supposed to end during the year the we now call 2012, and suddenly there a zillion different end of the world stories all connected with that date. Planetary alignments that do not exist, asteroids that will not hit, and now pole reversal! GET REAL! The magnetic poles have reversed many times in that Earth's history, without any problems, and may do so again soon, where soon means within a few thousand years. And it will take thousands of years to complete the process. It will be a very slow process, which may have actually already started, but it is hard to tell, and will not complete for many more years, maybe thousands of years, and now you think the pole will suddenly shift in the exact year 2012? COME ON! All this 2012 stuff is just BOGUS!

hmmm no this is not how you will die, Who told you this? I am 45 and my whole life, people have been saying some year in the future, life on earth will come to an end. do you remember 1999 was suppose to end all computers, lol. you saw what happened there. recently there was a prediction when all the planets lined up... it is just people feeding on fear for fear sake -go out enjoy your life. we dont get a exertion date on it. it will end for all of us at some point. typical when you least expect it; so enjoy each day you get, respect everyone is unique and has their own ideas try to have fun when ever u can -if you believe that bible stuff then were does it say the polls will switch? why r u asking if u r so positive of gods Divine plan just go with it all it is in gods hand -RIGHT?

Actually the poles have reversed quite a few times already. There is a record of these changes in the rocks that form the central ridge in the Atlantic.
No I don't think we will die, but it seems the magnetic strength of the poles has weakened by about 10% and some birds, whales and others may be getting confused by the weakened signal, hence they land.

Yes the poles are changing at an ever so increasing pace. There is a chance of flooding all around the world due to global warming. But this wont happen for a while. There is no need to freak about it. in 50 years is when you can worry. But we will not die out. We will go into just another stage of the world that goes and passes. Global warming is normal. But because of mankind's creations we have increased the speed of it. So everything is normal but going faster.

Actually, there is an underwater current (ocean conveyor belt) that is driven by the saltiness of the ocean that distributes heat throughout the planet. If the poles started to melt, the ocean would be less salty and the conveyor belt would slow down and cool the planet back down creating a cycle that keeps the Earth's temperature in line. The chance of any deaths by flooding because of climate change is slim.
I'm guessing that you go to a public school that teaches that global warming is an apocalyptic threat.
People only think it is happening because the media likes to believe that the world is ending.
P.S. I'm only 12, I have no life, I just spend all of my free time researching global warming. Please do not believe that man-made global warming is happening. Democrats just want you to think so.

No. Relax. The Earth will be here billions of years after you are gone. Want to do the little bit you can? Ever heard of ''Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle'' (the three R's)? Major corporations are implementing it but if every individual were to practice it as well the effects would be immense.

You are welcome to believe what you like but as for your questions, yes, at some point the magnetic poles will change places though we wont know exactly when. And as for will we die ? Yes. At some point everybody dies. Its part of the birth, death and rebirth cycle. Now, as for the continents doing any major reorganising, I dont know but I can tell you that theyre shifting a bit every year. Will this happen in your life time ? Possibly but your young and you have your whole life ahead of you. I wouldnt worry about anything that you dont absolutely have to worry about.
Your very welcome. Thank you for helping me to reach level 4.
