In this environmentally friendly world, should fines be placed on companies that use packaging unnecessarily. For example, a shirt can be bought from a shop either on a hanger or neatly folded in a clear plastic wallet with cardboard reinforcement, plastic collar support, pins, plastic clips etc... surely it's loads cheaper to just put it on a hanger?? and better for the environment. The same is true for fancy chocolates, easter eggs etc....

I'm sure it would be better for land-fill sites in the long term!

It's good for the farmer and hopefully good for the environment. But now it will affect food costs. How does this work?

Did you realize how many food products contain corn in them ? Food prices would skyrocket, Its already affecting Mexican peasants where tortilla prices are skyrocketing, I my self think its a bad move we should try a crop that we don't eat like Sugar Beets.

My electricity supplier says I can pay extra and switch to Green Energy. How are they going to separate Green Energy from any other energy to supply me since it all comes down the same wires? How would I know what sort of energy I was getting. Sounds like a lot of BS to me.

yes, global warming is real, and happening. but the real problem, and most likely the true catalyst, is what nobody will recognize - there are too many people!! there are more cars on the road, more power used, more fuels burned, more pollutants, more carbon dioxide, everything that the human race has become accustomed to in the past 100 years of technological advancement, we now require - can't live without. but look at the way the population continues to expand - people are having more children, people are living longer. even an individual adds heat to the environment (via b.t.u.s). if you want to solve the world's global warming problem - STOP HAVING KIDS!!! this is no world to bring them into. i have a 7 year old daughter, and i hope that mankind gets it's mess together soon, for her sake. reproduction is not a right, not a necessity. having kids is not something to do because "that's what people do - get a job, get married, have kids." it's a responsibility.

I can understand rock having been molten or pressurized, and sand being broken rock, and clay being rock too finely broken, but why is there good dirt for plants to grow in? What makes dirt good? What makes it be not compacted and not dusty?
