Start selling solar panels.

go out of business. I guess there would still be businesses that would need the electric and gas companies. And solar panels work better in tropical and subtropical regions. I don't think someone living in North Dakota or Maine would benefit as much from solar panels (especially in winter) as someone living in Texas or Florida.

They are working on it right now, making sure it never happens by discrediting global warming as a myth. As the last resort they can always sell us dirt cheap electricity for a while until solar panel manufacturers go bust.

they would either go out of business rather fast or start employing people to vandalise the installations, perhaps or more likely the electricity companies would have to diversify into solar panel sales, installation, maintenance and cleaning perhaps (we don't need the bird crap on the panels degrading the peak performance do we..)

you would not be able to provide "all" your energy with solar panels.

anyway they would probably do what the water companies do:
I recall hearing that, In one part of cumbria, there is a pub which collects all the run off rain from the side of a hill (Land that the pub owns) they filter it, treat it and purify it themselves and the local water company is STILL allowed to charge them for appropriating water.

THAT´S WHAT THEY WOULD DO:

- make the accountability, measuring, billing (+ or -) for everyone´s production
- transport the electricity to cover local peaks in demand
- cover globally demand peaks and production peaks, for example by pumping into hydro-reservoirs uphill or producing by letting the water flow down
- assist people in their installations
- make forecasts
- provide energy in large quantities at lower prices for industrial customers (since you wouldn´t want to pay twice the price for your car, or would you ?)
- invest in R&D
- pool investments in other much cheaper sources of renewables (the UK is going to build 8GW of tidal power... the equivalent of 6 modern nuclear power plants !!!)

They would have to put prices up to maintain their profit levels despite the lower consumption. The banks reduced staffing levels by introducing cash machines. Now they are doing their best to charge us for using the machines.

Charge you more for the gas and electricity you will use when the sun is not shining so that they maintain their required ROI.

make us pay for a license to have solar panels which would be costly so then they would make money from doing nothing like the television license people
