Evidently, President Bush is asking congress to extend the No Child Left Behind Act. What is your opinion, do you feel that it has made things better or worse for students? Also, are you a teacher/employee in the school district, or a student, or a parent of kids in public schools?

I am from Canada, and here one would need a Bahcelor's degree to get into a teachers college program, and then when they complete it - about a 1 yr program - they receive a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed). I am curious to know what the equivalent degree is called in USA. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

I know in many areas Guidance Counselors are paid more than teachers. As a high school teacher, I take a LOT of work home. Does anyone know if Guidance Counselors have tons of work that they have to bring home too?

I love working with kids but I am sick of the amount of hours I have to put in to do a decent job for the money I make. Actually...the money isn't as much of a problem as the shear volume of work. It is taking away way too much out of my personal life which is why I am considering changing careers.

I have seen several fellow teachers burn out and retire. I believe it is the negative atmosphere we all perpetuate with constant complaining and feeding off each other. I am seeing it on this board with people who just seem to push the blame for their lack of enthusiasm and competence. Remember, where there is smoke, there is fire. If you get non-stop complaints and ridicule from all sides, maybe it is time for you to look at yourself.

I was one of them. Then I stopped hanging out with teachers, focusing on my classroom and goals, and controlling what I can and trying to get control of what I couldn't. Now, I am happy, stress free, home by 4-5 every day and never work on weekends and my kids are higher than any class in the school and higher than the "snotty" other schools.
