The public school teacher:

Paying for your own training
Paying for your own supplies

Little too no recognition
Little too no salary

Summers off--getting more training or lesson planning.

Kids that dislike you because you expect too much.
Parents that dislike you because you expect too little.

Colleagues who could care less what "your" troubles are.
Administrators who could care less what "your" troubles are.

Nights and weekends grading papers and lesson planning. It never stops....

Truly making the difference in a child's life (approx. 1 in every 100)--Priceless....

My perception of a teacher.

Best job in the world. I change countless lives. I get paid extremely well considering I only work 183 days a year. I get paid for some training, I get paid to play sports with kids after school. I get all the major holidays off. My kids are the WORST in my city. They are the meanest, toughest, lowest academically, and least likely to succeed. And I love them. Today their behavior is average for a rich school, their academics are 5-20 percent higher than the district average. They are confident and tired of the ghetto and going to escape. Yes I am a bragger, but my job rules and so do I. In fact, my district is paying for all my books, half of my masters degree, and I will have a masters and an administrators license in 1 year, from a university that is nationally famous for education preperation and excellence. (In other words, I am not buying it off the internet)

Sure I spend thousands of dollars of my own, have parents that drive me crazy and have bad days with coworkers and administrators. But, WHO DOESN'T! ha ha ha
