Reading, writing, spelling, grammar usage and arithmetic are the essential skills to learn today. Anything else beyond that is advanced and extracurricular. This ia a standard benefit of not being illiterate and incompetent. There are many high paying jobs out there that only require these essentials. And can live life happily ever after.

Writing. Many people have difficulty writing a basic report, and in any job, being able to express yourself in written form is a must. People admire good writing, and one cannot move up in any business without this skill.

Assuming the person is literate, I would say knowing how to find answers. Nobody can learn everything, so it is important to learn how to find information that is needed.
