I know in many areas Guidance Counselors are paid more than teachers. As a high school teacher, I take a LOT of work home. Does anyone know if Guidance Counselors have tons of work that they have to bring home too?

I love working with kids but I am sick of the amount of hours I have to put in to do a decent job for the money I make. Actually...the money isn't as much of a problem as the shear volume of work. It is taking away way too much out of my personal life which is why I am considering changing careers.

I can only speak for my district but counselors here do not often take work home. They follow the same school calendar and hours that teachers do. I have never seen them at the school more than 30 minutes after the day ends.
However, they have to work during the summer to get all the students scheduled. But it is not all that bad because they can take those hours for comp time during the school year.
I teach middle school and am currently working on my guidance certification for this very reason.

My daughter says that the guidance counselor at her school is there everyday. I am not sure what the salary is but it seems like a nice job with less of a workload than teachers because they don't have to grade papers etc..
