Teaching - March 2007

I'm creating a new reading group at my local library, however, I've never done this before. I'be been to others but besides knowing the following reading book, I'm never sure of the structure. Is there a structure to these things? I know essentially we just discuss the book of the month, but that can seem fairly repetative and frankly dull. Utimatly, I suppose I'm asking: Is there a particular 'curriculum'?

This is a funny place to ask, but a propos! When I was in school we students had to document our sources, such as books, magazine articles, and so on. Now it seems that many students go to the internet to find information. How do teachers handle this? Is it allowed? Do students cite the web as a reference, and how do they prove the information they find is accurate?

When we complain to our history teacher he got angry, what's the benifit? Because of this, the class deided to have a debate, half of them wants history, the other half don't.

Right now I have an AA Degree from a community college and I'm currently taking classes for a communication degree. What do I do to become a high school teacher? How much do high school teachers get paid? What classes can I teach if I'm going to have a communications degree from a California State University? Thanks in advance for your help.

Ok, the demands in school are insane! You do not teach basic core curriculum. You have lunch, recess, and other duties assigned. some no time off. Some teachers do not have time to prep. Oh by the way, just think of the principal who is like a dictator in some areas. You send a student out of class for abusive behavior and the principal sends the student back for the teacher to deal with it. What about that overpaid Supt. of Schools who earns $100,000 in some districts? I was a former teacher for 5 yrs.who gave the school administrators hell and I am now in a better job as a Social Worker...

Is it a bad thing for a guy to keep a diary? What do you think about a guy that can cook and clean? What do you think about a guy that is scared of the dark?What do you think about a guy that listens to (girly as you would like to call it) music? ok, i have a decision to make, middlesex uni or roehampton.

i wondered if it would affect your decision if a newly qualified student was from roehampton over middlesex?

roehampton has one of the best reputations, so would you be inclined to turn down middlesex student in favour of roehampton?

Okay, so the teachers yelling at the students during the whole beginning of the national anthem. hes telling them he doesnt want to hear a sound. then he tells everyone to stand up. one kid stays sitting down. the teacher tells him to stand up. he doesnt stand, or say anything disrespectful to the teacher. the teacher pulles the chair out from underneath the kid, forcing him to stand up, and another kid got it on video. the kid who got it on video was suspended for 10 days for supposedley "violating the teachers constitutional rights". Whatever. Idont even stand during the national anthem, or even say the pledge of alligance.

As a teacher, I would much rather a parent come to me and express their concerns, than go above my head and "tattle on me" to my boss. How can I help solve the problem if they don't tell me? I am human. I make mistakes. I try not to but it happens. Why do you think parents don't contact the teacher for help before going up the chain of command? Only once has this happened to me, but I felt horrible. I had to tell my principal that I knew nothing about it and the parent hadn't said word one to me. It only made the parent look worse, not better.

So I need free printablework sheets. I want to help him with some basic stuff thats not toooo hard. We want to work on learning planets and the order they are in. I've been working as a teacher merely for five months and I still find it hard to discipline some children. I tell them to be quiet and while this works for a while, within a few minutes everything gets back as it was. Do you believe that it's too soon for me to achieve that, given the fact that I'm too young to be obeyed - being 24 I'm just ten years older than them. In younger classes -ages ranging between 7 and 12- I don't have that problem. What do you think I should do? Should I be feared in order to have them under control?
