"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it," from Reason in Common Sense, by George Santayana.

That pretty much sums it up.

History is a very important subject. Most people think that it onlyh teaches us about the past. This information is incorrect. History not only covers things like war, treaties, famines. It teaches us humanity, philosophy, religion, culture, techology and so on.

How does it teach us this i hear u ask? Well we learnt from Fleming how we got the biggest breakthrough that 20th centuary seen the invention of antibiotics. Experiments are a form of history just because its in modern times dosen't mean its not history. We learnt about space by history and travel into space. We have gathered information about the weather from years gone by and can calculate with reasonably certainity the weather predictions for different countries. On the subject of weather the Tsunami of 2004 that killed so many people. World leaders have learnt from this and how to aid countries and better cope with the crisis.

The main thing that we learn from history is what not to do. Unfortunately you have to be aware that history was written by the winners and the rich. Just because Britain won the two world wars dosn't mean that they were always good and upright. There was a lot of bad things done by Britain and its allies. (it was war after all). Don't forget that hundreds of years ago only the wealthy could read and write. That when they wrote it may not have been totally correct and they may just have printed their versions of the events.

good luck with the debate

All history should be taught in school. Alot of times the school system leaves out African-American History or the don't tell the complete truth. Not just African-American History but history of all people. If you don't know your history 'you're doomed to repeat it" Good luck and stand up for what you believe.
