I really appreciate the fact that you asked for examples and HOW to do something rather than just asking for a thesis sentence. The sentence itself of course will depend on the book. What do you mainly want to say about it? Are you making a comparison between things in the book or between this book and another? Are you commenting on how this book is good/bad, important/unimportant, right/wrong, relevent/irrelevent? What is the paper mainly about? The point of the paper - what you are actually trying to say, is your thesis, so the thesis sentence will be a statement of this. Of course knowing this and actually giving an example isn't so easy, but I'll try:
The book,"Now We Are Three" should be required reading for all presidential candidates since it deals with Winnie the Pooh and his friends learning to live and get along with each other.
Of course this is an opinion type essay that would now need to be supported by instances from the book.
Or maybe: Edgar Allen Poe uses alliteration effectively to get the feeling of eeriness in "The Raven".
Obviously this is about the feeling evoked by the poem and how the repetitious sounds bring that about. Follow with examples to support this thesis.
so. . .
decide what it is you want to make a point of, then say that and follow it with examples that support your idea (thesis). The original statement is the thesis sentence.

Mind you I'm not an English teacher, but this approach has gotten me through a lot of English classes. Good Luck!
