Is this typical? How to avoid it? It's a post-lecture slump.

I teach college. I tremendously enjoy teaching itself and I have rave reviews/evaluations.

It is AFTER teaching that the problems start.

Quite possibly you are investing so much energy, enthusiasm, and perhaps even emotion, into your lectures that you are experiencing a sort of mental adrenaline rush, and once the lecture is complete, you are feeling a physical fatigue that is attributed from intense thought process....

Or, you are using teaching and lecturing as an escape from problems, and once finished, you no longer have a lecture or a lesson to lose yourself in and focus your energy on.....

What level do you teach? Are the kids bored? Sometimes it isn't good if the lecture goes on for too long. Usually, if you teach something that you are really interested in, and you are enthusiastic....so long as some of the kids obviously paid attention or became enthusiastic as well, you most likely did a good job and will feel good. Being depressed after teaching doesnt sound normal. Either you need to adjust the way you teach or perhaps teaching is not for you? Maybe you could ask someone who is very experienced to observe you and tell you what they think.

I don't think it's typical...it's actually strange if you like teaching. Why do you get depressed? It think answering this question honestly will reveal a lot for you. As for what to do...? PRAY! For anything, and for everything pray to God, believe in God, He's there for you, just waiting for you to call on HIM. Are you happy teaching/lecturing? Are you doing this for you or to help the kids? Because teaching is a good thing (if what you're teaching is good of course), therefore you should feel good afterwards, not bad. So for whatever reason, pray. Talk to God about everything and anything, He's there waiting to listen to you....May God Bless You and Guide You.

Maybe you should get some immediate feedback from the students to see if they enjoyed the lecture or learned things. If/when you get POSITIVE feedback, maybe that will help you feel better about what you just lectured. If it's negative feedback, it will give you something to work on. Maybe it's just a letdown after all the work of preparing the lecture and you need to look forward to your next project.

GO OUTSIDE! Seriously. After your class go outside with a bottle of water and get some fresh air. Walk around a bit. I find that I can be really down after spending a day in school (teaching) and then driving home, but if I walk home my mood is really lifted. Schools and universities can be really stuffy places.

I am usually on a "high" after lecturing. Do you enjoy teaching? Perhaps you are being too self-critical?
