This question is for my wife, so here's some more details. She's a teacher in California. She has her elementary teaching certificate.

Check with a local university and see if they have a test that she has to take, or if there are any classes that she needs. They can either help her apply for a license or can tell her how to do it if she already has the qualifications.

I'm pretty sure that with a Bachelor's degree and a teaching certificate, that will be enough to teach preschool. Check with the directors of some of your local preschools. Places that are geared more towards education are going to want that college degree and certification. Places that are geared to be more of a daycare are probably just going to require a HS diploma and a love of young children.

Everywhere I have looked in CA needs a certain amount of Early Childhood coursework (in job listings they call it EC). She may even need a degree in it. Of course she could teach at a private school and need a lot less, but make less, too.
