I'm a private English teacher, so I don't teach at schools. My problem is how to make students know about me and my skills as an English teacher. I'm sure I am better than most of them who teach at schools but they have much better opportunity than I do for private classes as students see them all the time at school. I want to know how I can advertise myself as an English teacher for high school student.

I am a teacher in 6th, 7th and 8th grade - American public school - its a ZOO.
The problem with this system as well as many others is basically a lack of discipline in the students.

#1 many of them come from broken homes and don't have parents who force them to behave or speak with respect to authority.

#2 many of these kids think they know every god damned thing and can't be told anything.

#3 many of them are physicaly intimidating and present a distabilizing force in classrooms.

I THINK THE PROBLEM IS THE LACK OF CORPORAL PUNISHMENT - i.e. consequence of disrespectful behavior.

How about the state invent shock collars that must be worn by students - that are linked to a wireless remote which the teacher will hold.
The collars will only have a 9volt battery with an oscillator that will produce about 5,000 volts.

Soon as one of these bastuds act up *ZZZZZZZZZAPPPPPP*

I think this is an excellent idea. At the very least we could use this in prisons?

I am 17 and teach religion classes at my church. I co-teach with my friend (who is also 17) and she can be very difficult to work with. She likes to entertain the kids, and can be disruptive to the class. She does make some good points, and can be a great teacher if she sets her mind to it. But sometimes she'll mock me, have outside conversations with the kids while class is going on, and do other things that disrupt the class worse than any of the kids do. I've tried talking to her, but it doesn't really get better. What should I do?

I am 24 weeks pregnant, and I am a teacher. My school has been completely unsupportive of me being pregnant. I have a meeting off campus tommorow around 2:30 to meet with somebody who may be able to help me out financially when I go on maternity leave. It is a very important meeting, and this was the only time they could take me. I don't want my school to know my financial business, so what I can say to them about why I need to leave early tommorow??

I dread telling them because I always get an attitude from them when I have to leave early, etc.

Thanks

I transferred (Language Arts teacher) from a big school (1200 -1400 students) to a rural one with three dozen students. Among them are three students with special needs who have been placed in a 'special' program - which I am expected to write and supervise. I teach them once a week on a Friday; and I have missed two consecutive classes because of a holiday and special school activity. I am going to miss their class again because of a conference and Mid-term Break.Where I live , there are no malls, big stores etc. so I cannot run out and buy items. Is there anyone who knows about a reading program that will motivate three 15-17 yr olds to read and at the same time equip them to survive in the real world. I can modify if I get a jumpstart as I write my own material at times. However, I have just moved here and I cannot access my computer because I have lost some cables. I am using the computer at school. Any help you can give is better than no help at all.

I am helping a 1st grade, spanish speaking, boy to learn english. The problem is that I only know a little of spanish. I am only helping him with the words that I DO know. --colors, numbers etc... I also need to know how to say "Top & Bottom". When he writes his name - he doesn't write the letters from the top of the line to the bottom of the line. I think if I could tell him top to bottom he might understand it better. Can anyone help me?

Any suggestions (providing they are sensible) are welcome. I am shortly going to be teaching a Year 10 class (of mostly boys) about 8 multicultural poems, including poets like Derek Walcott, Grace Nichols etc.

I am looking for fun, innovative ideas on how to structure these lessons; not just from teachers, but even from pupils who might have enjoyed a lesson on this subject.

Please, no silly answers, genuine ones will be so very appreciated!

What does it take to become an elementary teacher? Is the career worth all of the effort put into becoming one? How will I know if it is right for me? I want to become a photographer, but that isn't exactly guaranteed to pay the bills. I'm currently enrolled in program at the Art Institute Online for a Bachelor's in Advertising, but it is really really expensive, and I don't want my new husband and I to go into debt so early or have to worry about money. And teaching kids is one of the only things that really sparks any interest that is available at a community college. Help me please. lol.
