I joined this site to share my knowledge and learn something new.
I get fed up with people posting rude and offensive answers. It appears to me they do this simply to get two points.
Am I the only one getting annoyed?

I have to write an essay on this and to be honest I don't know where to start. Do you think it is important to be able to understand the foreign language of the student you are teaching or should you just stick rigidly to English?

I teach at a high school.There's a lot of contributing factors -socio-economic,political issues,uninvolved
parents etc. They don't respect teachers anymore and hide behind their "human rights" forgetting that teachers are human as well. Children are disruptive, don't take out books, swear at teachers, use drugs etc.If they are expelled the department of education forces us to take them back. This leads to children thinking they can get away with murder(literally!)A 14 year old(from another school) murdered a19 year old over gambling dept.Teachers are threatened if they want to discipline them.Parents are inapt to educate and have no sense of responsibility.Would for example use drugs themselves and let their 15 year old daughter sleep with her boyfriend.I blame television, lack of support from government, the change in school policy(no Christian values or corporal punishment)and that parents aren't forced to take responsibility!Teaching is in my blood but they're sucking the life out of me!

I have an 'artsy' project in my careers in education class and it is to paint an 'arts and crafts' container to where the outside represents teaching (E.I. - pens, pencils, books, alphabet, ECT.) and I got that part done, I just need help on what to put inside the box that resembles a teacher's heart...

We have two events like this per year. Last year was my first year as a teacher. We did the family reading night in late November, so we did a Christmas type of holiday theme around the Polar Express book. We did an excellent job. Each grade level did a different theme. I teach second grade.
Anyway, this year it is going to be a fall or Halloween theme. We have little time to prepare for this since it was given with short notice. We have to do fun reading activities centered around fluency, comprehension, phonics, etc. Plus we have to send home some type of activity that the family could complete with their child.
What would be a good idea for a theme and some activities. I am stumped. I want this to go as well as it did last year and I am so worried about this.

Teaching in Muslim Northern Nigeria I was arrested for being drunk by police after end of term party and caned by police. A video was taken of my punishment and later shown to my very amused pupils. Do other Muslims think the way I was treated is funny? I went out there to help the blacks and got degraded. They don't deserve my help. Does anybody agree with this?

After Columbine and in more recent school violence, how can we make our nation's youth understand kindness and compassion rather than hatred and negativity. Kids are harsh towards one another....how can we change this? There are character ed.programs in schools, but how much emphasis is placed on a program like this? Teachers, Parents...Kids...what do YOU think?

This is at a school where I teach.

It was on Friday. The teacher told him that she was going to count to 5 and if his things were not up she will throw it in the trash. She counted to 5 really fast and then stuffed his belongings into the trash bin.

She is going to speak to the director of the school, but she wants to know what type of disciplinary action she should expect from the school.

Her son said all the students were laughing at him and he wanted to cry. He asked her to take it out please and she said, "No it will stay in there until you get out of school."

He is a new student at this charter school and I am the one that recommended that he attended this urban school.
