Hi, I'm a new esl teacher, and I work for a brand new school with no textbooks or curriculum for ESL. The students I teach seem native speakers, but they have weaknesses in writing and spelling, as well as grammar and punctuation concepts. What is a good approach to teaching them? Also, keep in mind, I don't have books, and might not get any for a while. I'm also open to book suggestions for next year. thanks!:)

I can teach grammar or literature. I have lesson plan ideas, but five minutes is tough. It is a mini-lesson for an education class.

I learned this at school in maths O-level, and I've never met anyone since that knows what it is. So don't worry too much if you don't know the answer!

Clarification: half the class failed AFTER I curved them! I reviewed a whole class period for the test and even worked out examples that were ON THE TEST and still they missed them. Everyone seemed to get nomenclature when I guided them through a worksheet and a little over half got moles and stoichiometry on homeworks. Those who didn't got a long session of review and question opportunities, where I explained where they went wrong and how to fix it. I am afraid nobody will pass my course! I want them to understand it; I've had grueling sessions of problem explanation and step-by-step working out of problems and concept presentation, book and worksheet exercises (many didn't turn them in). They are freshmen and sophomores in community college, many taking chemistry for the first time. Many have trouble with math and I've recommended the available math lab. What else can I do? Take home tests? Extra credit? Anyone experienced with this problem?

1. Every time a student goes for treatment in the school nurses office, the nurses have to make a written report of the injuries and what or who cause the injuries? If so, who gets that report?

2. If the injuries where caused by someone on purpose, do you have to inform the police(just like Doctors), or that responsibility goes to the Principal, or there is no need to inform the authorities?

Thank you.

They all want to talk at the same time. I ignore them if they do not raise their hand and they talk anyway. They are so excited to participate that they want to speak, but they end up drowing out other students who might want to say something but don't. I have tried passing out a talking stick and that has worked a little bit. I have also tried attention getters (shushing them, flickering lights, those who are paying attention must clap or raise their hands, etc). I haven't tried bribery yet. Think that will work?

I've taken a job in a language school overseas, the school teaches young children (5-12). The boss wants me to treat the children softly, making them happy. But my attitude has always been to discipline them harshly (no, I don't hit or spank). The boss says that her business is based on children having fun whiloe learning English. But I feel uncomfortable doing things like songs and games because I feel that my dignity is more important. I've always believed in showing children discipline, but she says that I'm too strict and boring. I'm worried about getting fired. How do I go from being the disciplinarian to being more freindly.

im a junior at a public high school and it is mandatory to participate in choir. This year we have a new teacher who has been giving us rather religous pieces that we will be singing in an upcoming performance. I made an appointment to talk with the dean at my school becuase a lot of kids are unhappy about the religous lyrics he has given us.
here are some of them:
"god i would die for thee"
"Mary has came and i am resounding with praise"
"I walk in the light of god"
"god was there when the earth began and for that i sing with joy"

Is this really allowed? Am i fighting for a lost cause?
Also he takes points off for abscenses excused or unexcused. Can he do this if we had excused abscenses by our parents? Doesn't he have to provide an alternate way to make up points?

most people don't know who they are, and when asked this question they will often tell you their name, or that they are a male or female, or black or white, which all of these things are for identification purposes. I do not want to know your name, or what you are, or your color, nationality or gender, but who are you.
