Any suggestions (providing they are sensible) are welcome. I am shortly going to be teaching a Year 10 class (of mostly boys) about 8 multicultural poems, including poets like Derek Walcott, Grace Nichols etc.

I am looking for fun, innovative ideas on how to structure these lessons; not just from teachers, but even from pupils who might have enjoyed a lesson on this subject.

Please, no silly answers, genuine ones will be so very appreciated!

How many students? Are the poems on the same topic?
You could give them a copy of one of the poems each and ask them to guess where the writer is from and WHY
You could check their understanding of the poems and the cultural background they use to judge them (their own and the writers)
Look at the influence of the writer's culture in the poem

I somewhat ought to devise a lesson for my eighth grade English type and then prepare it. i want help figuring out what to do. truly some anybody is training sport on the Oval (even notwithstanding it is no longer English suitable). I somewhat do not comprehend what to coach. My type is really hyperactive and not in any respect works. i like it to be relaxing and exciting, no longer uninteresting. It doesn't might want to be a lot to do with English. It doesn't might want to be about spelling, books, or interpreting; so, it will be something to do with English. in case you are able to imagine of something that i might want to do, that is giant because I somewhat do not comprehend. i visit't believe you're an English instructor. those poor, poor children. No ask your self our children can't talk, examine, or write. i'm sorry, i'm no longer regularly like this. it is in basic terms appalling.

An idea might be to look for a common theme or themes in those 8 poems and then look at how the different cultures have approached that theme - how their cultural identity has influenced their approach to it - ie death, birth, life, marriage, children, family .......
